A Diamond With Strong Fluorescence

Fluorescence is a Characteristic of certain Diamonds. It’s a natural occurrence caused by trace amounts of Boron from the Earth’s Core mixed in with the Diamond when it was created billions of years ago.

It’s also a characteristic that helps identify that particular stone.

Some Diamonds have it, some don’t.

Some have Faint Fluorescence, others have Medium, Strong, and even Very Strong Fluorescence.

So I thought I’d take a minute and look closer at stones with Strong Fluorescence. Just for the fun of it! :)

Strong Fluorescence

Below are images (10x magnified) of Loose Certified (GIA) Diamonds all graded “Strong Fluorescence“.

What you see may surprise you…

Images are taken from James Allen Website!

This first image has NO Fluorescence! I put it up here to start you off and let you see what NO Traces of Fluorescence looks like in a Internally Flawless (IF) Diamond with D Color… Just about the BEST Diamond you could ever find. Take a peek…

IF D Diamond With No Fluorescence

1.52, IF, D, EXCELLENT, GIA, NONE SOLD VIEW

That Diamond is AWESOME in every way. That’s probably why it sold so fast. :)

NOW Let’s see some Fluorescence!

Now let me show you images of Diamonds WITH Strong Fluorescence for Comparison!

VS2 Diamond With Strong Fluorescence

CARAT WT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERT, FLUORESCENCE PRICE VIEW
1.00, VS2, J, GOOD, GIA, STRONG $4,190 VIEW

That Diamond is a little hazy around the outside of the stone. It doesn’t look as good at the Diamond at the top, even though a VS2 Diamond is still an extremely High Quality Stone.

There’s just something about it that doesn’t look quite right…

SI2 Diamond With Strong Fluorescence

CARAT WT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERT, FLUORESCENCE PRICE VIEW
1.00, SI2, I, VERY GOOD, GIA, STRONG $4,220 VIEW

This SI2 Diamond is interesting because it doesn’t appear as hazy as the VS2. It has MORE Inclusions, but it doesn’t have that Haziness that the cleaner stone has.

VS1 Diamond With Strong Fluorescence

CARAT WT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERT, FLUORESCENCE PRICE VIEW
1.01, VS1, G, VERY GOOD, GIA, STRONG $6,460 VIEW

Another VS1 Diamond that just doesn’t face up as well as the other stones. The Facets and Cuts aren’t as sharp. It isn’t as bright and beautiful as Diamonds without Fluorescence.

IF Diamond With Strong Fluorescence

CARAT WT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERT, FLUORESCENCE PRICE VIEW
1.02, IF, I, EXCELLENT, GIA, STRONG $7,570 VIEW

This IF Diamond is practically FLAWLESS, but yet the Diamond looks a tad Blurry and out of focus. Fluorescence is making it look different in the light.

Interesting eh?

Some of these Diamonds are VS Clarity, and even IF Clarity. You probably would never know it by looking at these stones. They just don’t face up crisp and clean like the top image, do they?

Looking at these Diamonds close up, you can see all the Flaws and Imperfections in the stones. But, if I didn’t tell you they had Strong Fluorescence, you probably would never know. You would just know that they didn’t look as good as the others did.

So What Makes Them So Different?

TURN OUT THE LIGHTS!!!

To see the biggest difference in Fluorescent Diamonds, you’ll need to turn out the light… and turn on an Ultra Violet (UV) Light instead!

A UV Light is pretty much the same thing as a Black Light, it makes Fluorescent Items Glow-In-The-Dark!

So, if we were to throw a UV Light on these stones, they’d probably look something like this…

Diamonds With Strong Fluorescence

Pretty Cool, eh?

Your ring will Glow Strongly in the Haunted House! :)

What you Don’t See…

What you won’t see in these images, or on the Certification (Diamond Report), is what they look like in Natural Light (Not Microscoped or Magnified).

Because that’s the REAL TEST!

Fluorescence is cool, but only if it doesn’t affect the Beauty or Sparkle of the Diamond.

Some Diamonds that have Fluorescence, also tend to look Foggy, Hazy, or Cloudy in natural light.

So just by looking at your stone in the daylight, it could look Blurry, Misty, or Milky.

One Diamond that I found on James Allen shows this Fluorescence off better than any other image I’ve ever seen…

This Diamond below gives you a much better idea of what Fluorescence really looks like.

Take a look…

VS2 E Diamond With Strong Fluorescence

CARAT WT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERT, FLUORESCENCE PRICE VIEW
2.02, VS2, E, GOOD, GIA, STRONG $26,650 VIEW

See that haze? See how it looks Foggy inside?

THAT’S FLUORESCENCE!!!

NOW you understand how Fluorescence can play weird tricks with the light (with some Diamonds – Not all). It makes them look odd no matter what the Diamond Clarity or Color is. The Diamond pictured above is a VS2, E! Compare this to a Diamond without Fluorescence and there will probably be a day and night difference. It’s that drastic!

That’s why Diamonds with Fluorescence (especially Strong Fluorescence), should be viewed at in different lighting circumstances just to see how they react to normal and natural light (BEFORE you Buy it).

It could have NO affect, or it could make your Diamond look Dull and Lifeless!

Only you can tell…

Here’s an image showing off the 5 different Fluorescent Grades a Diamond could get…

Different Fluorescent Ratings In Diamonds

Just remember, not all Diamonds with Fluorescence will look weird to the eyes. Each one needs to be viewed to determine the effect.

Only you can tell if you step Inside and Outside!

View the Stone!

Does it hinder light?

Does it look Foggy or Cloudy?

If so, you may want to skip that stone and look at other Diamonds.

Because if a Diamond has NO Beauty, then why buy it?

Really!
