Zultanite?
I get Excited when I see a New Line of Jewelry, a Dazzling Diamond, or a Stunningly Beautiful Gemstone…
And so when I saw this New Gemstone (A Tweet from @ZultaniteGems) my Mouth Fell Open!
It’s a Gem called “Zultanite” and I was Instantly in Love (and you will be too).
This is Zultanite
Granted these Stones are Some of the BIGGEST of the BEST, but still…
WOW!
The Thing that Grabbed me the Most about this Stone, was not only the Intense Vivid Colors that Displayed from the Stone, but the Intensity of them.
I’ve never seen a Stone show so Many Colors at once…
Zultanite used to be a Collector’s Gemstone, but not any more!
On Sale Now!
The Public can now Purchase Zultanite themselves.
How Wonderful!
And then this One Phrase Caught my Eye and Made me Stop and Drool:
Color Changing Gemstone!
What?
Color Changing?
Now I’ve seen Color Changing Gems Before, the Most Common Gem is Alexandrite, along with Fluorite, Garnet, and Sapphire, as shown below…
These Color Changing Stones Generally Exhibit only 2 Distinct Color Palettes (Which is called Pleochroism).
Zultanite is Different!
Zultanite is Light Sensitive and shows a Plethora of Different Hues and Colors ALL at the Same Time (Something Totally Unheard of)! And the Color Change that Happens can be Dramatic, Obvious, and Unique.
See For Yourself…
The Colors Can Be Extreme!
The Range of Colors in these Stones can Change from Canary Yellow, Cognac Pink, Ginger, Kiwi Green, Raspberry Pink, Rich Champagne, and Sage Green!
It’s INSANE!
When you hold these Stones in Different Lighting Atmospheres (Inside, Outside, Fluorescents, Incandescence), they can all Look Different! (Just think of the Wardrobe Possibilities; You Can Wear them with Chocolate, Golds, Greens and Mochas!)
When you View it under Sunny Skies, it looks Yellow-Green. See it in Traditional Light (Mixed Lighting), it looks Champagne. Hold it under Candlelight, it’s Raspberry in Hue. I’ve tested it, the Stone is Wonderful and the Colors are Crazy!
See all of the Color Changes Below…
It Really Is Amazing!
Results will Vary of course, but the more Different Types of Light you have, the More Noticeable the Change becomes! (Like Inside with Direct Sunlight through the Window… SUPERB!)
And the Bigger the Stone you BUY, the More Striking and Intense the Colors will be (I’m Talking Large Carat Weights, like 4-5 Carats)
So What is Zultanite?
Zultanite is a Trademarked Name for High-Quality Diaspore. Diaspore was First Discovered in 1801, and only Recently Recognized as “Plausible Gemstone Material” in 1977.
It’s a Durable Gem (6.5-7 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness), making it Very Comparable to Amethyst and other Quartz Stones.
Diaspore, the Inferior Stone?
Sadly, Diaspore has taken a Bad Rap over the Years, because the Stones were Originally Cut Poorly and Filled with Huge Visible Inclusions. The Result was Not a Pretty Stone. So “Diaspore” was considered “Bad Quality“, Hence the Reason no one Heard about it.
Zultanite Changed That
Officially Named in 2005, Commercially Mined in 2006, and Trademarked in 2008, Zultanite takes Diaspore to a Whole New Level.
Zultanite’s Mission is to ONLY Sell High-Quality Diaspore (Which is just 2% of the Yield). And Only Sell Stones that are “Eye-Clean” (Meaning No Eye-Visible Inclusions from 6″ away with the Unaided Eye, you’ll need a 10x Jeweler’s Loupe to See any Inclusions; GIA Calls these Stones “Type II Transparent Gemstones“).
Most Gems on the Market (Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald…) have LOTS of Eye-Visible Flaws. It’s Very Rare to Find any Gemstone without Black Spots, Lines, Clouds or Imperfections Visible to the Naked Eye.
Zultanite is Clean!
It makes them so much More Stunning!
Plus, all the Stones they Produce are Optimally Cut and Faceted so their Unique Color-Change is Maximized.
And it’s Working!
Today, Zultanite is Exclusive, Desirable, Exotic, and Very, Very Rare.
Extremely Rare
With just a Couple Thousand Stones Available, this Gem is RARE, RARE, RARE!
And as Demand Increases, this Reasonably Priced Gemstone will Sky Rocket!
So if you Want one, you should Buy One Today!
The Limited Quantities make it Hard to Mass Produce, but the Outcome is Tremendous.
And not only are they Ultra-Rare, but the Stones are NOT Heat Treated or Color Enhanced!
Never Heat Treated
Think about this: 90% of all the Gemstones on the Market right NOW are Enhanced or Heat Treated to make them Look Better (Gemstones like Peridot, Topaz, Tourmaline, Citrine, Sapphire, Emerald, and Aquamarine…)
Zultanite is NEVER Enhanced
What you see is what you get. The Main Ingredient that’s Responsible for this Color Change is Manganese (Zultanite also Contains Minerals like Iron, Chromium, and Titanium).
And the Bigger the Stone, the BETTER the Color Change. I can’t Stress this Enough. Smaller Stones may not look so Appealing, but Large Stones create Quite an Impact!
And Size shouldn’t be that Big of an Issue since most Zultanites Sold on the Market are in the 3-5 Carat Range anyway (Anything over 5 Carats is Beyond Rare and Extremely Expensive).
Location Location Location
Speaking of RARE, Zultanies are only Found in ONE Mine in the Entire World.
ONE!
Where is this Single Mine?
Turkey!
High in Anatolian Mountains, Located 4,000 Feet above Sea Level, you’ll find the One Remote Mine that Brings these Amazing Gemstones to Life.
But Buyer Beware
You have to be Careful when Buying Zultanite, because many Unethical Turkish Jewelers have Obtained Diaspore (The Low-Quality Stones), and are Selling them as “Zultanite“.
Some of these Stones are even Man-Made Glass! Other Stones are Simply Poor Fakes or Look-A-Likes. You could get Ripped Off if you don’t Buy from a Credible and Official Source.
The Lesson to Learn here is:
Don’t Buy Zultanites from Turkey!
As Crazy as it Sounds, it’s True.
To be SURE you Receive a True Stone, make sure it comes with an Authenticity Guarantee, which is a Plastic Card with an Embedded Hologram that Verifies Zultanite as Genuine…
Names are Confusing
There are Many Names that you may see on the Market for Color Changing Diaspore: Turkish Diaspore, Empholite, Kayerite, and Tanatarite. These “Alexandrite-Like” Gems can also be Confused with the Lab-Created Stone “Zandrite” (Which is Featured on the Home Shopping Network).
So really, you have to be Cautious when Purchasing Zultanite in Order to get the Real Deal.
For Example:
This Particular Diaspore is actually listed on Amazon with the name “Zultanite” in the Title.
It’s NOT ZULTANITE!
It’s just Turkish Diaspore, and the Lister even goes so far to say that it’s NOT Cut Well, and that there are Visible Fissures near the Culet! Plus, there is no Authenticity Guarantee either!
See the Screenshot below…

Care and Cleaning
Zultanites are Easy to Care for. Just like you would Most Rare Gemstones, Zultanites should be Cleaned with Mild Soap and Water. zultanite is also csarite both from same location. so why two names. Geoff
Zultanite and Csarite are both the same, they come from Diaspore. The name Zultanite was the original, but never gained much steam, so it seems that they have relabeled this same stone as Csarite, in hopes that it will do better. :) -Richard
I was lucky enough to find a .65 ring on JTV that I could make payments on. It really is lovely and yes, my girlfriends won’t have one. I don’t think they are even aware the stones exist. I love it but haven’t noticed it changing in the different light. It is greenish gold in color. I still love it and wear it daily.
Hi Sally, I believe color change not being visible is because of the quality. Lower quality stones (less expensive), just like every other gemstone, won’t have the deeper darker colors, or the magnificent color changing attributes like more expensive qualities do. But they are still beautiful. :) -Richard
Hi – A friend purchased a ring for me in Turkey in the cruise port area. It is 7.00 carat (10×12 oval)-paid $500. She said they were closing the store for a couple of months and they were making deals. The stone changes from yellow topaz, to champagne to rose pink or deep vibrant emerald green. It doesn’t often look like multi-colors typically. Is there a way to test the stone to see if I was ripped off? or does this sound legitimate?
Hi Phyllis. Contact zultanite here: https://twitter.com/ZultaniteGems or here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/JMLsinc and inquire. You may have to send them your gem for testing, but it’s the best way that I know. :) -Richard
I was in Mexico I seen and they told me it was only in Mexico.
