You too can be a Diamond Digger!

I’m talking about DIAMONDS!
Read Diamonds!
(Although some of you Excel at Digging For Gold! Just Sayin’)
And there’s only One Place in the Entire United States to do this…
The Crater Of Diamonds
The Crater of Diamonds is a State Park Located in Arkansas.
It’s the Only National State Park where you can Literally Dig for Diamonds!
Originally Farm Land (Owned by John Wesley Huddleston), Diamonds were Discovered in Volcanic Material Way Back in 1906.
The Land was soon Sold for $36,000 to a Commercial Mining Company, and…
The Diamond Rush Began!
The “Crater of Diamonds” (Named in 1951) was bought by the State of Arkansas in 1972 (for $750,000) to Develop as a State Park.
And Today, Visitors can Comb the 37.5 Acre Plowed Field and Search for Diamonds themselves.
And the Really, Really Cool thing about this Whole Adventure…
Any Diamonds you Find, you KEEP!
That’s Right. The Park’s Tagline is “The World’s only ‘Keep what you find’ Diamond Site!“
And trust me, this mine has turned out some Incredible (and Quite Expensive) Diamonds over the past 100 years.
In fact, in 1972, a man named W.W. Johnson (of Amarillo, TX) found a Whopping 16.37 Carat Diamond!
WOW!
That’s HUGE!
Can You Imagine?
Cut into a Beautiful 7.54 Marquise Cut Diamond, it Certainly made that Vacation an Awesome Lifetime Experience.
See his Diamond and others below…
The Crater of Diamonds is the 8th Largest Diamond Bearing Crater in the World. And Diamonds are Found in all Shapes, Sizes and Colors (Like White, Brown, Yellow), Plus, you can also Find other Gemstones like: Amethyst, Garnet, Jasper, Agate, Quartz, and many others.
It’s a Gem Lovers Paradise!
And the Park also Provides FREE Gem Identification and Diamond Certification too! SWEET!
You can Find Diamonds by:
- Walking – Searching the Soil, especially after a Rain where Top Soil gets Washed away Exposing Stones.
- Digging – Searching with a Small Hand Tool and Digging in the Dirt for Loose Stones (many also use a Sifter).
- Excavating – For Serious Diggers, where Waste Gravel from the Mines were Dumped, called “Trailings“, Diamonds are often covered up by layers of Soil and Dirt. Experienced Hunters look for Low Areas, Pockets, and Dig Deep, Sift, Wash, and Repeat!
And if you do Decide to Dig…
Make sure you Wear Old Clothes and Shoes, for you’ll get Dirty and Muddy! Plus, it can get awfully Hot in the Summer, so bring a Hat and Sunscreen.
Are there are Still Big Diamonds to be Found?
Absolutely!
Two Recent Large Finds are:
- 8.66 Carats in 2011
- 6.53 Carats in 2006
Those are some BIG BIG ROCKS!
You can bring your Own Tools if you like (Buckets, Shovels, Stools, Screens, Wagons… Just nothing Battery or Motor Operated), or you can Rent these items at the “Diamond Discovery Center” for a Small Deposit Fee Plus Tax (Gotta Pay for that New Arkansas State Quarter that Features the Crater of Diamonds on it).
And not only does the Park offer “Diamond Digging“, but just like most State Parks, they have:
- Class AAA Campsites
- Enclosed Pavillion
- Picnic Sites
- Restaurant
- Gift Shop
- Trails
- Laundry
- Water Park
There’s something for Visitors of all Ages!
It’s a one-of-a-kind Experience that’s Fun, Exciting, Adventurous, and hey, you can Find Diamonds! (For a Nominal Fee that gives you Access to the Search Area)
Doesn’t that make you Drool?
