Don't Like Your Birthstone?

Don’t Like Your Birthstone?

You’re Not Alone!

Not everybody has a Wonderful Beautiful Birthstone

In fact, probably half the Gemstones on the Market are Colors that People Dislike.

Some people don’t like Lime-Green. Others aren’t a “Lemon Yellow” Person, and some are NOT Passionate about Pearls!

Me, I don’t like Opals!

Let me rephrase that, I like Opals (like this Men’s Created Opal Band is Kick Ass Cool), just NOT as a Birthstone for me.

And Guess What?

Today is my Birthday!

YAH!

Thankfully I’m a Male, because Women Very Rarely Buy Opals (the Official Birthstone for October) for Men.

Plus, the Alternative Birthstone for October is Pink Tourmaline!

Not Any Better… For Men!

WHEW!

Most Men Generally don’t get Jewelry for Bday Presents Anyway, unless it’s a Watch, Pendant, Bracelet, or Swiss Army Knife (is that Jewelry?)…

Ladies though, I feel Sorry for you!

Because one of the “Default” Gifts for a Women on her Birthday is the Dreaded “Birthstone” Gift.

Now if you have a Birthstone that you LOVE, by all means, bring it on (See the Entire Birthstone List HERE!)

But sadly, you’re Stuck with whatever Month you were Born in, and every Jewelry Store will Stock tons of that Color… And Many of these Stones are Ugly, Low-Quality Gems that Aren’t Very Appealing! Plus, they’re Cheap because they’re a Present!

Even Worse!

That way, all those Men who come into the Store, that have no idea what to get you, will Follow the Salesperson’s Lead right to the Birthstone Case… They’re Buying you another Birthstone Ring.

JOY!

So What Do You Do?

Grin and Bear it!

What else?

You might be able to Swap out the Stone for something Prettier. You might also be able to Exchange it or Return it, but then, you’ll have to Ask for the Receipt and Try Not to Hurt his Feelings at the same time. :( (And then you know what happens… No More Jewelry Gifts For You!!!! EVER!)

Sigh!

Seems like the only real thing to do is to Grow Fond of that Color, try to like it, or Wear it Once and Hide it in the back of your Jewelry Box (You know you do this).

Because Birthdays are all about Birthstones, Love them or Hate them.

If you’re really Lucky, you’ll be born in April and have DIAMONDS as a Birthstone!

YES!

But for the Rest of us, it’s a Gemstone that will Haunt us for Life!

OPALS?

Oh No!

This Birthday I Want a Furbacca and a Portable Party Speaker Disco Light!

Fun Birthday Gifts

HA!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Cheers! :)

  1. Happy Birthday, Richard!!
Hope it’s as cool and enjoyable as you and your many blog posts are!

Regarding “Birthstones” being colors or textures some do not necessarily find appealing, there are a few minor alternative sources that could be consulted. One of the most accessible happens to be not so much “Birth Month” stones from the one 30 or 31 day period in which you were born, but Astrological Stones, which are the stones found most “in tune” with the characteristics of each Zodiac sign. Astrological stones seem to have several alternatives:

    Astrological Zodiac Gemstones.

February, for instance, is always known for its purple Amethyst. But if you happened to have been born in the earlier portion of the month identified with Pisces, you got to use the beautiful pale blue-green of the Aquamarine with which to identify yourself, if purple just wasn’t your thing.

There are numerous sources to consult to find which stone you could claim for yourself, and some lists differ in their interpretation of which sign associates with which stone, but that can certainly be used to one’s own advantage! If one list doesn’t give you the sort of stone you find appealing, then perhaps another list will! Like:

    Birthstone Meanings

    Birthstones by Day

    and even

    Chakra Gemstones

Oh, by the way, Richard, I happened to recall that October used to have another birthstone associated with it, back in the days before the list of official stones was redone by the Jeweler’s Association in order to increase appeal to and purchases by the general public. It happens to have been Jasper! A stone with very masculine overtones, possibly why it had few feminine fans.

If you’re not fond of your contemporary choices, you could always try out the vintage lists!

    Best wishes on your birthday!
    Shari D.
