Jewelry Stores Dont Steal Diamonds Or Rings

WHAT?

Jewelry Stores DON’T STEAL?

Have I lost my mind???

NOPE! Because it’s NOT the Jewelry Stores that are stealing from you…

It’s the Employees!

You see, just recently Kay Jewelers got into a lot of hot water because of an incident that went viral (Read: FOX NEWS HERE!). Seems like a customer had accused Kays of swapping out their goods…

And many people have wrote in about this topic, saying “How can you support Kays” or “I’m never buying from them again…

This is fine, you can think what you want, but I’m here to say:

I’m not believing it!

Because it’s not “Kays” that is stealing, it’s one of their unscrupulous workers

And before you say “Well they represent the company“, do note, that in every single business across the country, there will always be that one person, that one employee who just happens to steal.

I’m sure you’ve heard of people in your own company that stole or have gotten fired from stealing (Paperclips, Post Its, Money, Merchandise, Hours…).

It happens. EVERYWHERE!

Every business hires people, and you can’t control what people do. Sure you can have policies, cameras, inventory control and every other means of preventing theft, but the truth is, it’s still going to happen and WILL!

It’s not the company’s fault. Hell, look at restaurants… You think all the Waiters and Waitresses claim 100% of their tips? No! Didn’t think so. That’s stealing from the Government…

Does that make it right?

What if you leave the Grocery store and see that they forgot to charge you for Milk. Do you go back in and pay for it? Or do you say “It’s their fault! That’s what they get!

You see, it’s not so cut and dry. You can’t point fingers and still bend the rules at the same time.

Jewelry Stores don’t open up a store thinking “I’m gonna rip off the public!” No one does that.

That’s not what they want!

Stores want to build a reputable business and hire reputable people…

But bad seeds happen. You get someone who snatches a “FREE” Watch Battery, or skims a couple of bucks from the cash drawer. And then, yes, every so often you get those greedy fools who get so desperate that they steal customer’s diamonds and rings. I’ve been in the industry for 28 years, I’ve heard of it happening about 3-4 times in the past.

And keep in mind, that’s “HEARD” about it… I’ve never seen it. In fact, there’s very little proof… For all I know the customer could have brought in a “Fake Diamond” and then accused the Jeweler of switching it…

I don’t know!

All I’m saying is those employees get fired. No business wants to keep them. But that shouldn’t bring down an entire company. It’s silly to think that way.

Look at yourself, look at your company and business… How do you deal with stealing? Employees?

Should you allow a store to crumble because one person thought it was right to pocket something that wasn’t theirs?

NO!

It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere… Just cover your butt and get insurance.

That’s what it’s there for!

Stealing is part of life, SADLY! It’s something we all have to deal with…

So don’t be flubbing your taxes, or getting too happy when something rings up $10 less than it should…

Someone has to Pay the Price!

But should it be the store, company, or business?

What’s your take?

I agree – it’s a few bad people that are giving the store a bad reputation. We’ve all heard the stories of jewellers switching out diamonds for something cheaper. There are a few things you can do to prevent being a victim:

    1) Get to know your diamond. Buy a loop. Check your diamond for crystals, inclusions and feathers. I think of them as ‘birthmarks’ – they identify my diamond to me. Unless you’ve spent a lot of money for a Flawless, VVS, or VS diamond, you should be able to find at least a few things.

    2) Have your diamond laser engraved. Mine has a GIA number and some wording engraved on the girdle. It’s much too tiny see – but at least it makes my diamond unique.

    3) Deal with your local jeweler. Get to know him – ask him questions – and build up a relationship. He won’t steal from you if he considers you a friend.
