CORRECT MARQUISE CUT DIAMOND'S SHAPE!

WHAT IS THE BEST PROPORTIONS FOR A MARQUISE CUT DIAMOND?

Best Proportions for a Marquise Diamond!
So if you're looking for the best proportions for a Marquise Cut Diamond, it's simple;

The Diamond should be twice as long as it is wide. 2:1.

Those proportions will give your Marquise that distinctive Diamond shape that we all know and love so well.

I would stay away from Marquise that are odd shapes like short and fat ones. Marquise that are fat in the center make the Diamond actually look more oval than pointed.

Bow-Tie

Marquise that are cut well will have a distinct bow-tie affect in the center of the stone. Because the center of the stone is deeper than it's ends, the center will actually be darker because it gets less light. That darker center is called a Bow-Tie and its the mark of a good cut!

If you don't see that bow tie, then your stone is cut either too shallow or too deep and the light isn't penetrating the stone correctly and maximizing brilliance and sparkle.

V-Tips

My last bit of advice about Marquise Cut Diamonds is the type of head to put it in. The head is the actual prongs that hold your Diamond in it's mounting. When you have it set, make sure you get v-tipped prongs (see picture). V-tips do 2 things:

1. It protects the ends of the Marquise from chipping and breaking because it covers them. The weakest part of the Marquise are the ends and that makes them vulnerable to harsh damage.

2. It helps give the Marquise that lovely pointed look that women love. (It makes their fingers look longer!) Regular prongs on the tips of your Marquise always get banged around and bent. They chip the ends of your Diamond easily. Get the V-Tipped Prongs and you won't regret it!

So remember to go with the V-tips. Look for that beautiful bow-tie. Get 2:1 proportions. And buy at least a 1.00 (1 Carat) Diamond... Okay, so I just added that last one, but I'm telling you, a 1 Carat Marquise Cut Diamond looks visually stunning!

And lastly, make sure it's G.I.A. Certified! I can't stress enough how important Certification is to buying a loose Diamond! It's vital and necessary! And that's a point well taken!
