This is an interesting question because people take Gemstones and Birthstones so seriously. Some people truly believe that you can't wear any Gemstone that isn't your Birthstone. Some believe in the old superstitions and curses that have followed Gemstones around for Centuries. Some
wouldn't be caught dead wearing someone else's Birthstone!
But here's what I say about the whole topic: HOG-WASH!
Opals are not Cursed Birthstones! (The most popular of the legends!) You won't have seven years of bad luck if you wear them. Who cares if it's not your Birthstone?
Here's the truth: Just about every single Gemstone has some sort of Myth and Curse surrounding it. For that matter, so do Diamonds! (Diamonds are probably the worst!) But do they stop people from wearing them?
In fact, if you really truly believe that you shouldn't wear other people's Birthstones, then you shouldn't wear Diamonds! Why? Because Diamond is the official Birthstone for the Month of April!
So all that superstition voodoo goes right out the window.
Here's another reason to not ever worry about wearing other Month's Birthstones that aren't your Birthday Month... Theses Gemstones that represent the 12 Month Birthstones are the most popular Gemstones there are!
Which also means that you'd be drastically limited in what Gemstones you can and can't wear. Almost every single Gemstone found on the market today is someone's Birthstone! So who cares anyway?
If you like the color and like the Gemstone, wear it! Gemstones are meant to be colorful, fun and worn to accessorize your wardrobe. Accentuate those Blues, Greens, Reds, Yellows and Purples! Why not?
Mix them up. Match them! Gemstones are beautiful and radiant. Look at Mother's Rings for example. They carry other people's Birthstones, even though they are your kids, but still...
Plus, just about every Gemstone comes in multiple colors anyway. Sapphires come in exotic colors like Blues, Pinks, Yellows, Greens, Oranges and even Purples! So wearing different colors is no big deal.
And some people really have no choice. I'd like to see the Man born in October being told that the only Gemstone he could ever wear was "Pink Tourmaline" which is that Month's Official Birthstone! Yeah, ha, that'll go over well!
Gemstones, Birthstones, Myths, Legends and Lore have been around since the beginning of time. Should you worry about it today? Nope! Because I know a lot of Women who are born in August who absolutely hate their Birthstone which is a Lime Green "Peridot" (See Green Ring in picture!) They'd much rather wear a precious Gemstone like Ruby (July), Sapphire (September), or Emerald (May) any day of the week!
I don't blame them either. Nor would I stop them. Gemstones are an incredible work of nature. They should be admired by all. And what was chosen long ago to represent your Month and Birthstone shouldn't matter in the least. What matters is Color and Fashion and Statement!
Enjoy all the Gemstones no matter when you were born. Because Birthstones weren't born in one Month, they were made all year round. And that's good enough for me! Read: Birthstones Month by Month!
