What a coincidence! You walk into a Jeweler and as luck would have it,
they're having a SALE! I'm so shocked!
A sale at a Jeweler? Who would have guessed?
Have you ever heard of such a thing? Here's the funny thing... come back in a month, and viola, low and behold, the Jeweler is having ANOTHER sale! WOW! You are really lucky. Lucky and stupid if you fall for such a thing. The sad news is, this is what the Jewelry Industry has become. Discounts, Sales, Promotions, Clearance Tags, Half-Off Sales, Blue-Light Specials, Mark-Downs, Inventory Reductions & Blowouts! WHEW!
You can practically walk into ANY Jeweler, ANYTIME, and they will ALWAYS be able to give you that special liquidation sale price. A once in a lifetime offer. A before the Holiday Special. Door Busters, and the best ones, right here, right now, bottom line, take it or leave it. (p.s. leave it!)
It's mind boggling. The truth is, Jewelers always try to mark their Jewelry up. That way, when they do offer a sale price (cough, all the time) they're still making their mark. Most Jewelers will normally go 30-40% off Retail all the time. It's no big deal. Yawn! Here's the catch! Jewelers only discount all the time, because people never purchase Jewelry at full price. It's a given. I don't know how or why this all began, but people simply WILL NOT pay full retail price for Jewelry anymore. People want to feel like they're getting a deal, especially on luxury items.
It could be because Jewelry is expensive. It could be because it's a want and not a need. Or maybe it's just because people don't trust Jewelers anymore. People feel like Jewelers are ripping them off, so unless they get a deep discount, they won't buy. I think in the last 20 years, I've probably only sold a hand full of merchandise at full retail price. (pronounced FOOL retail price!) I mean come on, I wouldn't pay full price, would you? So when you're shopping around and see sale signs screaming 30% off, just think to yourself "that's just the normal selling price!" You'll be in a much better frame of mind for buying that way.
