SONIC JEWELRY CLEANER REVIEWS!

JEWELRY CLEANER TESTS, REVIEWS AND RATES! DO THEY WORK?

Jewelry Cleaner Reviews!
For this Article, I'll be Reviewing, Testing, Critiquing and giving the Pros and Cons of two of the most popular Jewelry Cleaners on the Market today:

  • The LaSonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner
  • The Sonic Jewelry Bath (Cordless Cleaner)

Do they Work?

Do they Clean?

Are they worth buying? Let's find out...

The Jewelry Cleaners Review is coming up...

Plus a bonus:

  • Homemade Jewelry Cleaner Solution!

You're gonna like that! :)

First up...

LASONIC SUPREME SONIC JEWELRY CLEANER!

This Connoisseur Jewelry Cleaner, LaSonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner (by Connoisseur) sells for $29.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond. (I used a 20% off Coupon and saved $6.00)

The box boasts "Make your Jewelry Sparkle like New the Professional Way! (We'll see about that!) It shows a Woman (With Red Hot Lips) wearing a stunning Diamond Ring and Sparkling Earring. (Sparkles added in Photoshop!) A Disclaimer on the bottom of the box reads "Jewelry Pictured Not Included". I always love these Disclaimers! :)

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner!

The side of the box has a picture of the machine and says:

• Improved Sonic Wave Cleaning
• More Power
• Safe & Effective
• Removable Tanks
• Easy to Empty
• Easy to Clean
• Lid Storage Compartment
• Complete with Drying Cloth
• Space Saving Cord Storage

The Contents

The contents of the box includes the following items:

• Cleaning Solution
• Brush
• Drying Cloth
• Instruction Booklet (With a Jewelry Care Guide. What you can & cannot clean in the Sonic!)
• 2 Year Warranty (Replaces the machine for 2 years with a $6.00 Handling Charge)
• The Sonic Cleaner!

I decide to follow the Instruction Booklet step by step and photograph the process so you can see the results.

I place the machine on a dry flat surface next to an outlet! (Check!)

There are two handles with two lids that open up. The first handle lifts to reveal the Lid Storage Compartment with Drying Cloth. I instantly think "What a waste!" Do you really need an entire compartment for a cloth? Buy hey, it's convenient!

The second handle opens up to reveal the Basket and Tanks.

You'll see that the Brush is clipped to the inside of the lid for ease and storage. (Which is good because I would lose that Brush in a heart beat!)

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner-1!

I goofed with the baskets a little since printed on the lid states 'Important! Before operating Machine Tanks must be "Locked" in place'. I notice that by each basket is a picture of a lock either "Unlocked" or "Locked" (Pictured below).

To Unlock the baskets (for Emptying & Cleaning), you have to push down on the Basket and rotate it towards the "Unlock" position.

I quickly see that the pictures nearest the Basket are actually meant for the other Basket. So when it says "Observe Icons shown near Tanks", you have to be careful and turn them the proper way. Even after knowing how they Unlock and turn, I still had to fiddle with them. I will say that the way the Baskets lock into place feels cheap. I felt like I was going to break them at any time.

But No Matter, they Worked!

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner-2!

After I locked the tanks into place, I proceed to put the Cleaning Solution in the Left Tank (as per instructions). It took me a minute to figure out what the solution was. At first I was thinking the Red Bottle was the solution, but then I see from the box that that is the "Bonus Travel Size Jewelry Cleansing Gel & Brush!"

So I look at the Black Package (feels like Frosting Mix). The instructions say "Select the proper Connoisseurs Formula... All Purpose, Regular or Delicate" ??? All I see is this one Black Package that reads "Jewelry Cleaner Concentrate. One Use. 3/4 fl. oz. So I guess that's the stuff. It has to be, there is nothing else...

I Add the Contents!

I dump the contents into the Tank. The instructions say "Measure the Concentrate as directed on the bottle", so I'll assume that means if you bought your own Cleaning Solution, follow the directions on the bottle. (Do note that there is no fill line or mark in the Tank to show you how much to put in, so it may be hard to measure!)

Now it's time to add the Water. I realize that I have to unlock the Tank to do this. Duh! So I do that and fill the Tank with Warm-Hot water from the tap all the way up to the easy to see Water Fill Line.

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner-3!

I lock the Left Tank back into place. Then proceed to unlock the Right Tank, fill it with plain Warm-Hot Water and lock that back into place. (The Right Tank is used for Rinsing the Jewelry off after it's clean!)

In Goes the Jewelry!

Now I put my Jewelry (14kt Yellow Gold Chain, 14kt White Gold Ring, Platinum Diamond Earring) into the separate Hanging Basket (Which fits into the Tanks, but you have to be careful because it likes to get caught. I think that little extending tab could break off easily!) and immerse it into the Cleaning Solution Tank.

There are two settings: Low I and High II. I choose the High II (just because I can). The Instructions say to clean your Jewelry for 1-2 minutes (1 minute longer for extremely dirty Jewelry). Well, what the heck. I put my Jewelry in for 3 minutes. I had to test it... I used my kitchen timer (not included) to count down the minutes.

Let the Cleaning Begin...

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner-4!

The machine is not as noisy as I thought it would be. Just a medium hum. Not bad at all! (I'm used to loud Ultrasonic Machines at work!)

I watch as the liquid starts to vibrate and can see dirt particles breaking loose and fogging up the cleaner. Sweet!

It Actually Works!

I'm impressed! After 3 minutes, I hoist the basket out of the solution and put it into the Rinse Tank on Low I for I minute (per Instructions).

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner-5!

Using the handy Touch Up Brush to remove trapped particles, I scrub underneath my Diamond good... Because this is where Diamonds get the dirtiest!

After the rinse, it says to lift the basket out of the water and rest on the drying post (Those little nubs that stick up from the tanks are another thing that could break easily).

After it dries for a couple of minutes, I further dry it with their Lint-Free Drying Cloth. And Viola...

My Jewelry is Clean!

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner-6!

Did it Clean my Jewelry well?

I would say "YES!" My Diamond sparkles, the Chain is shiny, the Ring looks great... It did a fine job. Granted, my Jewelry is never "Extremely Dirty" (Since I work at a Jeweler), but it did remove dirt as evident by the tons of black debris floating in the solution. (There really was a lot of dirt in the cleaner, it just didn't photo well! See picture!)

Lasonic Supreme Sonic Jewelry Cleaner-7!

Summary and Rating:

Yes, the machine cleans and cleans well. It worked as described. It's Easy to Use and only takes a couple of minutes. (Great!) It's very Easy to Empty and Clean. Just rinse the Tanks under water and you're done. (Don't put these in the Dishwasher!)

Make sure you Empty and Clean the machine out every time you use it. Most people tend to leave the Solution in the cleaner so they can reuse it. This doesn't work well because you're using Cold, Dirty Water! Yuck!

The cleaner is cute and compact. It looks nice sitting on the counter (unlike the Professional Ultrasonic Machines that are Big, Clunky, Noisy and Ugly).

I also like the fact that the cord rolls up inside the machine (See picture above). That's a great feature.

Is it worth $29.99? I would say yes. Lots of other machines cost double this and probably wouldn't give you any better results. (If you can get it cheaper like I did, that's a big bonus!)

All in all, I would say this machine lives up to it's name. I give it 4 Stars! (4 out of 5)

4 Stars!

I was impressed with the machine, and my Jewelry got clean (That's the main goal anyway). But the one feature that I would have loved to have seen this machine have is a Hanging Rack for Rings. I disliked the fact that the Rings and Jewelry sit on the bottom of the Basket and Agitate. (They rub against each other which can scratch them!)

Plus the fact that the Brush was a little too stiff and hard. I felt like that would scratch your Jewelry as well. I prefer to use a Soft Toothbrush instead.

So as you can see, there are only a couple of issues that keep this machine from becoming 5 Stars.

Something that could have swayed me even more would have been including a Bottle of Cleaning Solution instead of just One Small Packet.

Lets look at the Pros and Cons!

The next Cleaner up for Review...

SONIC JEWELRY BATH CORDLESS CLEANER!

The Connoisseurs Sonic Jewelry Bath Cordless Cleaner sold for $12.00 at Walmart in their Jewelry Department. It was $9.87 back in 2008! :( The new price tag was covering up the old one...

I really wanted to try this Cleaner because I was curious to see if a Travel Cleaner would stand up to the big boys.

The picture on the box shows the same lady as the $30.00 version (She gets around). The Disclaimer on the box also states "Jewelry Pictured not included". Rats! So much for a Free Diamond Solitaire!

Sonic Jewelry Bath-1!

The box says:

• Carousel & Suspension hook holds Jewelry for Hands-Free Cleaning.
• Cleaning Solution Packet
• Instruction Book
• One Year Warranty (Replaces the machine for Free, but the handling charge is $6.00)
• Requires 4 AAA Batteries NOT included! (Bummer! Those cost as much as the Sonic does!)

Plus, it also has the "Good Housekeeping Promise" Seal... Whatever that means?

The box also says:

• Sonic Wave Action
• Cleans Jewelry
• Professionally
• Elegant
• Compact
• Easy to use

Great!

Let's give it a Try!

There are only a couple of items in the box: The Machine (Fits in the palm of your hand), the Cleaning Solution Packet, a lid with the Suspension Hooks attached, and a separate S Link Hook that's pretty much a waste!

Sonic Jewelry Bath-2!

The Instruction Booklet says to use the S Link Hook if your Jewelry is too large for the suspension hooks. I still find that odd, because the hook is so long it just lays on the bottom of the machine. Anything hooked to it would just float away.

I don't get it???

Step 1. Insert the Batteries. (Good thing I buy them in Bulk!) There are 2 compartments for Batteries on the bottom of the machine (Why 2?). You have to open these up to put the batteries in (2 batteries go in each compartment).

The first compartment opened up with no problems. The second one, not so good. The plastic tab snapped off with barely any pressure on it. Not cool! I grab my screwdriver and pried the lid off. Inserted the batteries (Battery Positions are marked inside the compartments) and closed it back up again. The broken lid closed just fine!

Sonic Jewelry Bath-3!

I think to myself "How much juice can this little machine kick out?" I turn it on (only one simple On and Off switch) and WOW!!! ha, that little sucker is powerful. It vibrates loud and fast. It's got a lot of kick!

I open the Black Package of Concentrate up and dump it into the cleaner. There are 2 fill lines (Which I love), One for the Solution and the Second (near the top) for the Water Line.

Excellent!

The Concentrate they give you isn't even enough to fill up to the first fill line... But this is Concentrate, so it should be just fine.

I hold the machine under the tap and fill the rest up with Warm-Hot Water. Now I'm all set for cleaning!

I hook my Jewelry (14kt White Gold Link Chain and 14kt Yellow Gold Diamond Ring) onto the plastic hooks (They hooked easy enough) and placed the lid back onto the machine. The hooks did a good job of submerging my Jewelry into the cleaner as you can see.

Sonic Jewelry Bath-4!

I turn it on!

It says to only turn it on for 1 minute (2 if really dirty). So 2 minutes it is! :)

It doesn't take long before Dirt and Debris breaks loose and fills the Tank up with Black Specks and Foggy Solution. It's like a Snow Globe of Dirt!

Sonic Jewelry Bath-5!

After 2 minutes, I pull my Jewelry out of the Cleaner and run them under Warm-Hot Water to Rinse the Solution off. (Don't let them go down the drain!)

I dry off my Jewelry and am pleasantly surprised by the outcome. My Jewelry was totally clean, and yes, the Diamonds sparkled plenty. It worked great!

Summary and Rating:

I love how compact this Sonic Cleaner is. I love the Suspension Hooks for Rings. Jewelry that hangs down vs sitting on the bottom of the Cleaner always cleans better! I like how fast it works as well. 2 Minutes is amazing. The Cleaner was a no-brainer to operate. (You can't go wrong with only one switch!)

I dumped the Solution out in the sink and rinsed the tank out with Warm Water... Clean up is a breeze! (Don't submerge the machine!)

The only Downfalls?

The S Link Hook is useless. It comes with No Cleaning Brush. It comes with No Drying Cloth. And the Cleaner isn't very big. But then again, how big is Jewelry anyway?

I'm perfectly fine using this little device for all my Home Cleaning needs. Works for me!

Sonic Jewelry Bath-6!

The thing that bugs me the most... 4 AAA Batteries! Which reminds me: Remove the Batteries when not using the machine so they don't leak and corrode the compartments!

This is a Great Little Vibrating Machine. I think it's well worth the $12.00 price tag. Now if only it came with more than 1 Package of Cleansing Solution...

Over all... 4 Stars! (4 out of 5)

4 Stars!

I gave it 4 Stars, because even though this Travel Sized Cordless Cleaner works the way they say it would... It did break within seconds of taking it out of the box.

One bonus feature to these Cleaners is the added Jewelry Care Guide (Located in the Instruction Booklet!) The Jewelry Care Guide states what Gemstones and Jewelry you Can and Cannot put in the Cleaner. (And also for how long). Excellent Guide! Very useful information!
