ASK THE JEWELER QUESTIONS & ANSWERS!
READER'S QUESTIONS ANSWERED HERE!
QUESTION FROM RAY IN THE UK:
Question :
My wife and I both have 3-colour Gold Puzzle Rings bought in Australia as our Wedding Rings (19 years and counting) One of the shanks has broken on my Ring (a piece about half a centimetre is actually missing) and my Wife would like her ring Rhodium Plated to a White Gold Finish.
Is my ring repairable? And if so how much would it likely cost?
How much to rhodium plate my wife's ring?
ANSWER FOR RAY:
Hi Ray.
Good questions.
Repairing these types of rings are just like any type of ring. They can add in a piece of gold to fix your ring, not a problem. Any jeweler should be able to do that, and prices will vary.
The Rhodium Plating might be more difficult and may even be impossible since the rings need to be dunked into a jar of Rhodium. If the rings were separate it wouldn't be an issue, but since they are joined and touching, the Rhodium Plating won't be able to cover all of the rings and may even fuse the rings together where they touch. I have a feeling that rhodium plating won't work or look good if it does. But it never hurts to try.
Hopefully this helps!
