I get endless Questions about Unidentified Stamps inside of Rings.
ENDLESS!
So much so that I had to literally say “I am no longer taking questions about Marks or Stamps inside the Ring“. Really, it’s pretty insane!
And even though I’ve made a long list of the Most Popular Stamps Here, it hasn’t slowed down the entries…
I still get questions daily. And I also see a ton of Questions Regarding Stamps (or Marks) in my Google Analytics. Things like:
- “ev” jewelry stamp?
- gr marking on ring?
- .3 al stamp in ring?
- m within heart arrow ring stamp?
- What does 8c89 mean stamped on Jewelry?
- Does an l stamped on a ring mean anything?

So what I’ve did is put together a list of Stamps that need identifying. I don’t know what these mean, so I’m turning to you for help.
If you know what the true meanings are of these markings, let me know. Email me and I will add in the correct meaning. That way, we all know!
I do believe most of these are probably Manufacturer’s Stamps, Logos, or Jeweler’s Initials. Hence, a lot of these will be forever unknown.

I can’t identify this ring I have. It’s a 9ct rose gold rind with the marking WD inside the ring and then there’s a big HB on the front in fancy lettering…. Please help ;)

I have a 14k white gold round diamond bridal set with additional smaller diamonds on the band that has stamps on the inside of the band/s in addition to the 14KT. On one band it is printed TRS 1/2. On the other band shows two connected side by side circles. In one circle the letter F is in it. In the other a letter I. Any ideas as to what these mean?

There seem to be a LOT more questions than answers here– it seems ‘maker’s marks’ are as numerous as the craftspeople who made jewelry, and apparently no authoritative directory to catalog them…

I’m pretty sure Anything with a fraction on it means its plated. I have a neckless that has 1/20 12k on it and it means its plated with 12k gold. Its the only legal way they can say GOLD and sell it as GOLD BUT THEY DONT TELL YOU ITS PLATED AND NOT WORTH THE HIGH PRICE THEY SELLING IT FOR!!!

The F.D. Is the initials of the diamonds designer. It stands for Forever Diamonds.
If I remember correctly I’m pretty sure that the 985 is platinum…You can take it to any cash for gold store and they can tell you for sure what you have and it won’t cost you a dime…good luck

I am looking at an 18k rose gold bracelet, stated in the description that it is from the 1940s. It has what I would call a slide closure. On the back side of the part that looks like part of the bracelet and receives the sliding in part is 0.750 or 0,750 raised inside an indented rectangle. Below that is an indented diamond on its side with 3 raised marks P 6-sided star with a hole in the middle G Any idea what the P star G mean? What is this type of closure/clasp called?

Hgf means it’s gold filled a pawn shop told me that one when I took a watch of my grandmother’s in.
I think NVC stands for Nataliya V. Collister, a designer. Silver is real, not sure of quality, unsure of stones; pricing does not indicate gemstones. This is based on all internet based research.
There’s an old Mexico mark NVC and no one seems to know what it means. 0925 accompanies it plus an odd italic mark that seems to be Firp or Fory or who knows!! Some also have MEXICO stamp.
Post 1948 also show the TC- with a number mark for Taxco.
I sure wish some one knew that mark!

Got to love a good mystery, but I personally believe they are just the craftsman’s i.d which is standard practice for anything creative. The reason many are shrouded in mystery, is possibly because there are too many jewellery makers/silversmiths/goldsmiths to be known worldwide. Another possibility could be identifying date code. Many dates on items, particularly from the 1800s & 1900s, bore “date code” as opposed to the stamping of a specif date. Back when this was a standard practice, industries/businesses/craftsman would have a unique date code that was almost like “Their Own” identifier.
I have done masses of research on many things such as bricks, bottles,household items back to the 1800s trying to establish a date of a friends miners cottage,and the general consensus is that these “date codes” often cover a “time frame” of say 1 or 2 years, with 5 years being standard in the 1800s to around 1960. Likely to have originated from “branding” by blacksmiths, my theory on this is that the “Smiths” are all an art from long ago, and some traditions perhaps have remained. Even letters I found in date codes could represent years..or the craftsman’s own identifier. I hope this helps or gets someone on the research trail. As for leads on definite answers, a quick trip to an Art Gallery of major Ciyproportion should reap answers. The curator would likely have an explanation. Good luck!!!

Hi Christine, I have a feeling you may never know exactly who made that ring. It seems like the term “blue fire” in the states refers more towards blue opals, versus diamonds. They did use the term “blue white” back in the day, to represent diamonds that had blue flashes in them, but they were actually just stones that were white in hue with blue fluorescence (deceptive and deceiving; they don’t use that term anymore). Whatever old styles, manufacturers and trade names created in Italy may be impossible to determine nowadays. Do you have relatives that still live there that could help locate the source? -Richard

Hello, I have a 14k yellow gold necklace with an attached pendant. The pendant is a bow with a puffy heart hanging from it. The heart has a diamond in the middle of it that’s inside a white gold diamond shape. The hallmark is MB which is inside a shape that’s hard to describe. It’s kind of a rectangle that expands so it’s bigger on top and bottom with points than it is on the sides which are straight. It expands to allow for the MB to fit. The links on the chian are little rectangles. It looks Art Deco to me. I’m trying to figure out the maker mark / hallmark and the age of it. Thanks in advance!

My husband bought me a beautiful round blue cushion with diamond accents, there is a ‘secret/hidden’ diamond on the inside. He also purchased the matching blue diamond with diamond accent channel earrings. All the items have 14K with ‘TL’ marking. It’s a beautiful set he purchased at Effy but it isn’t engraved ‘EFFY’. We took it To a jeweler for the appraisal for insurance and she said it was high quality diamonds but did not recognize the ‘TL’. I’ve looked at several different companies and the closest that resembles is The Leo Diamond (Could this have been resized and ‘THE LEO’ cut out? I have tiny fingers.

I wasn’t going to ask but I’ve been reading the comments and it seems everyone is helping everyone so…. I found, metal detecting, an old wedding band with the stamp “14” and next to it is a cross pattee. Anyone help me with this?

I received a silve or whitegold cross from Greece today as a gift from my dad and the symbols can be totally different then usual meanings and I’m lost 1side has a capital OMEGA RHO (looks like a capital P) then .46 on the other side it’s stamped I believe it’s PcP or a 585 or 565 or 535 or PPP or bcb one-off those combos of 3 it’s extremely difficult to make out, it’s really small and the shiner gold makes it very hard to read n I don’t have a mag glass plz help if u can, thia!!!

i believe LX is lx-antwerp. My engagement ring was purchased at Jared and has LX engraved inside it. This is the only thing I can find. When it comes time to get it cleaned, I’ll see if the sales rep can give more details
