Diamonds Lost Sparkle Don't Shine anymore

You look down at your Diamond Engagement Ring and frown. It just doesn’t look like it used to.

You remember how beautiful it was the day you put it on. You practically needed sunglasses it shined so bright.

Now it seems the life has gone out of it. It’s dull, cloudy, and no matter how much you clean it, it just isn’t the same. What happened? Why do Diamonds lose their shine and sparkle?

TLC

Well hang on to your seat, Don’t Trade In that Diamond yet, there’s still hope for that Diamond Ring yet!

All it needs is a little TLC. (Not to mention a really good cleaning!) I know, I know, you’ve cleaned it. You clean it all the time. Nothing makes it shine anymore. Well obviously, the way you’re cleaning it, it’s just not good enough!

Maybe it’s time to invest in a Jewelry Cleaner!

You see, Diamonds collect dust and dirt and lotions and food and baby spit and diaper goo. (what ever that may be) Over time this slime coats the bottom of your Diamond like a hard shell. So it’s time for a…

Professional Cleaning

Trust me, when it builds up over years, to the point that your Diamonds look dull and cloudy, then it’s going to take a Professional Cleaning to chip away at that debris. Sometimes it takes hours to soak and agitate enough in the cleaner just to loosen the layer of gunk.

I’ve seen Diamonds go without a bath for years. That junk is practically welded on to your Diamond. No wonder it doesn’t shine anymore.

I’ve seen Jewelers have to actually torch the rings just to burn the coating off. You’d be surprised at how years of build up reacts. It’s like paint on a wall, you have to scrub it and use cleaners and polishers to get down to the bottom layer.

Brand new again

Eventually, I guarantee it, your Diamonds will look brand new again.

Diamonds don’t ever dull up!

They don’t wear down. You really can’t even scratch them. They will look beautiful forever and ever as long as you keep it clean.

It’s that simple.

Clean them once a week. Clean the bottom of the Diamonds well. Clean all the cracks and crevices. Have your local Jeweler professionally clean them and steam them. Clean rings last longer. The gold stays durable and won’t tarnish. Plus your fingers won’t break out in a rash.

If you want your Diamonds to sparkle…

  1. I inherited a great aunts diamond engagement ring from my mother when I turned 40. It hadn’t been worn, or hardly even looked at, in decades. It’s set in 18kt white gold and has one center stone with two smaller stones on the sides, but isn’t the standard traditional “vintage” 30’s-40’s engagement ring style you see so much being sold on places like eBay and in antique jewelry stores. I think it’s more an early 20’s type design, but still doesn’t fit “the mold” of those either. I’ve only ever seen one other just like it, and that one had the matching wedding band, where this one did not. It has an unusual swirl design to it.
Anyway, when it came to me, it looked terrible. To my eyes anyway. The white gold was actually more gray than silver colored, and the diamonds looked dull and lifeless. I tried everything I knew to clean it up and put a shine on the diamonds and a polish on the gold, to no avail. I was stumped. So, I finally took it to my friend’s jewelry store, and showed it to her. She suggested I leave it with her, and she would have the bench jeweler take a look and see what they could do with it.
About a week later she called me to let me know I could come back in and pick up the ring. When I got there, I was almost as excited as when I got my own engagement ring, to see what they had been able to do with it. She brought it out, and took a little white tissue paper wrapped item out of its envelope. She unwrapped the tissue paper and all of a sudden it was like somebody had turned on an extra spotlight in the room! I was absolutely stunned to see how gorgeous the white gold was – without being rhodium plated! And the diamonds, as small as they are, just blazed away! It was stunning, and I suddenly realized we had attracted a crowd of other employees and a few customers who were oooing and ahhing over the results.
I asked how they had managed to do that, and she said it took a day soaking in the ultrasonic cleaner, and then a process called SpeedBrite, which I wasn’t too familiar with then, but I understand they’ve got something even better now, but I’m not sure what it is. Even me she doesn’t tell all their trade secrets to it seems! It also took quite a polishing to get it back to its original beauty, and it certainly does (still) look like it just came out of the Jeweler’s window display. I don’t wear it because it’s got an arthritic shank on it, and to fit me it has to slide all the way open and stay there. I don’t want to strain it too much, considering its age. But it’s not hidden away either. It’s safe in its own ring box in my jewelry chest, where I can get it out anytime I please.
It’s a really beautiful piece, and since I got it, I heard that this particular great aunt lost her fiancé during WWI and that since she didn’t marry him before he went off to France, she never got the wedding ring that was supposed to match the diamond ring I have now. I wish I could have afforded the $3400 being asked for the other set I found several years ago with the matching band, but it wasn’t in the budget! I still have the one, and that’s fine with me!
