It&#8217;s Annoying, Not Professional, and<strong> Irritates some like Fingernails on a Chalkboard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nTo me, it gives the Appearance that they Don&#8217;t Care, has No Responsibility, No Real Desire in Life (It&#8217;s Just a Job), and they Just Chomp, Chomp, Chomp Away.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>It doesn&#8217;t look Pretty, Nor Sound Great<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd if you&#8217;re Eating in the Back and a Customer Interrupts your Lunch, make sure you Wash your Greasy, Oily Hands and Pick the Lettuce out of your Teeth. Not to Mention <strong>Mouthwash for your Garlic Breath<\/strong>. Oh, and Wipe the Crumbs off your Tie, and do something about that <strong>Spaghetti Sauce on your Sleeve<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\nYou see, <strong>it&#8217;s Not Very Presentable<\/strong>. It&#8217;s usually Better to have someone else Wait on the Clientele. That way you don&#8217;t Fingerprint the Diamonds.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Get my Point?<\/strong> :)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Appropriate-Attire-For-A-Jewelry-Store.jpg\" alt=\"Appropriate Attire for a Jewelry Store!\" title=\"Appropriate Attire for a Jewelry Store!\" width=\"502\" height=\"275\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Appropriate-Attire-For-A-Jewelry-Store.jpg 502w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Appropriate-Attire-For-A-Jewelry-Store-300x164.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><h2>3) Keep your Jewelry Cleaned &#038; Polished<\/h2>\n<p>\nThis is a No-Brainer, or so one would think.<\/p>\n<p>\nSadly, <strong>it&#8217;s just not the Case<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nYou&#8217;ll see many Jewelers showing Diamonds and Engagement Rings that are Dirty, Covered with Tarnish or Oily Fingerprints, and even <strong>Showing Silver Jewelry that is Oxidized and Black<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\nI see Cases and Trays with Rings Upside Down, Sideways, <strong>the Tag is Sticking Straight Up<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><h2>What are Jewelry Stores Thinking?<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>It Doesn&#8217;t Kook Good!<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>\nI had a customer ask if a Ring was &#8220;<strong>Used<\/strong>&#8221; Before because there was a Smudge on the Diamonds and Gold. <\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>It&#8217;s Embarrassing!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nThe items in the Showcase should <strong>ALWAYS<\/strong> look Perfect and Spotless. They should be Kept Clean and <strong>Fingerprint Free<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\nWhen you show items to customers, <strong>keep a Polishing Cloth Handy<\/strong> and Gently Wipe the Goods Before you Hand them over to the Customers. This not only Gives you Ample time to Chit-Chat with the Customer, but it gives you Time to Look at the Tag and Gain Valuable Info, like Carat Weights, Clarity, Color, and Price (<strong>Which also Helps Loss Prevention<\/strong>). <\/p>\n<p><h2>This Cleaning Process Never Ends<\/h2>\n<p>\nAnd while you&#8217;re at it,<strong> Clean the Showcase Windows<\/strong>. Kids Love to Put their Hands and Lips all over Glass. When the Staff isn&#8217;t Busy, have them Constantly Clean and Straighten the Jewelry.<\/p>\n<p>\nPlus, if you&#8217;re Showing Loose Stones, make sure the Stones are Clean and Dust Free as well. Steam Clean them so when you Show them under a Scope or a Loupe, <strong>the Dirt won&#8217;t look like Inclusions!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>It Just Makes Sense<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nYou won&#8217;t Sell very many <strong>Dirty Diamonds!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nAnd, having the Sales Staff Cleaning Merchandise keeps them out on the Floor and ready to Meet and Greet the Next Customer&#8230; <\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Keep-Your-Jewelry-Cleaned-And-Polished.jpg\" alt=\"Keep Your Jewelry Cleaned And Polished!\" title=\"Keep Your Jewelry Cleaned And Polished!\" width=\"502\" height=\"275\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Keep-Your-Jewelry-Cleaned-And-Polished.jpg 502w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Keep-Your-Jewelry-Cleaned-And-Polished-300x164.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><h2>4) Fix Your Lights<\/h2>\n<p>\nWithout Light, <strong>Diamonds won&#8217;t Sparkle!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nWhich means, the more Light, the <strong>Merrier<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>\nMake sure, on a Daily Basis, that <strong>you Check ALL your Store Lights<\/strong> inside and out. Check the Fluorescent Bulbs, the Halogens, all the inner Showcase Lights, Spot Lights, Microscope Lights&#8230; You don&#8217;t want Dark Areas or Shadows.<\/p>\n<p>\nI&#8217;ve been in Stores before where the Case Lights would come on and off throughout the day. It was Distracting and would Surprise Customers when it would <strong>POP<\/strong> on.<\/p>\n<p>\nI&#8217;ve also been in other stores that were <strong>Way, Way Worse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Some Store Owners never change their Burnt out Ceiling Bulbs<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><h2>EVER!<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>One Store had 18 Burnt Bulbs<\/strong>. 18! I Counted Them! <strong>That&#8217;s Lazy!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n18 Dark Areas in the Store. The Salespeople would be Showing Goods to the Customer and have to Lead them over to a Lit Spot in order for them to see. <strong>Not Cool!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nI&#8217;ve seen some Stores shut off the Overhead Lights as well just to Save Money. They would turn them on when Customers would Enter. Imagine a Customer&#8217;s Face when they would Enter a Dark Store Suddenly Flooded with Blinding Light. <strong>Is this Professional?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><h2>Not in the Least!<\/h2>\n<p>\nThe Store would probably look Closed. Is this the Business you want to Reflect?<\/p>\n<p>\nLeave your Lights on and make sure <strong>they ALL Work!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nAND make sure you Check the Outside Lights, Building Lights, Parking Lot Lights (so it&#8217;s Safe), and make sure they aren&#8217;t Burnt Out. <\/p>\n<p>\nI saw one Jewelry Store in Town that had Burnt Out Letters in their Rooftop Logo&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\nSadly &#8220;<strong>elers<\/strong>&#8221; was Burnt out, leaving only &#8220;<strong>Jew<\/strong>&#8220;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>True Story!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>It Wasn&#8217;t Appropriate!<\/h2>\n<p>\nKeep a Stock of Bulbs on hand and once a Day make it a Duty to Walk the Store and Check the Lights.<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Check-All-The-Jewelry-Store-Lights.jpg\" alt=\"Keep Your Jewelry Store Lights Working!\" title=\"Keep Your Jewelry Store Lights Working!\" width=\"502\" height=\"275\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10567\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Check-All-The-Jewelry-Store-Lights.jpg 502w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Check-All-The-Jewelry-Store-Lights-300x164.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\n<h2>5) Offer Service and Smiles<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>It&#8217;s all about SERVICE!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nWhat Services are you Giving Customers?<\/p>\n<p>\nI always say you can Judge how Good or Bad a Business is, by the way they Handle <strong>Problems <\/strong>and <strong>Returns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn Fact, this is the Case for any Store Across America!<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>You need to Train your Staff on How to Deal with Problems<\/strong>, Irate Customers, Repair Issues, Billing Mistakes, Finance Fees, Exchanges and Returns.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>It&#8217;s all Part of the Job<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nDeal with it Smiling and you&#8217;ll Win the Customers over.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Bottom Line is, <strong>Keep your Customers Happy<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><h2>Keep your Customers for Life!<\/h2>\n<p>\nBad Word of Mouth is Bad Business and Spreads like Wild Fire. It&#8217;s just Not Worth it <strong>No Matter Who&#8217;s Right or Wrong<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nGo out of your Way to Make your Customers Happy and they will Reward you with More Sales and Generations of Family Members to come.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Offer Services like:<\/strong> Free Cleaning and Polishing. Hand Deliver Rings when they&#8217;re Finished. Offer a Free Watch Battery Day. Set out Candy for the Kids, Coffee for the Adults. The Sign on the Door says they are Open until 9 p.m. It&#8217;s <strong>8:40<\/strong>. They Walk into the Store to <strong>Shop for Engagement Rings<\/strong> and what do they see?<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>The Staff is Pulling the Merchandise and Putting it away<\/strong>.
