\nThis happens more than you know<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nYou go to the jewelry store and buy a beautiful watch<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You love it.<\/h2>\n

\nYou wear it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n2 months later the battery dies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

WHY?<\/h2>\n

\nIs there something wrong<\/strong> with the watch?<\/p>\n

\nDoes it suck up the juice<\/strong> that fast?<\/p>\n

\nWill it always be like this?<\/p>\n

\nA lot of people think so…<\/strong><\/p>\n

But the answer is: NO!<\/h2>\n

\nWell, sort of…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThere’s nothing wrong with the watch in particular. But some watches do consume way more power<\/strong> than others.<\/p>\n

\nWatches that have multi-features, timers, alarms, lights, sounds, all the bells and whistles<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nThese functions will use up more of the battery and drain it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n\"Brand<\/p>\n

But is shouldn’t drain it that fast.<\/h2>\n

\nEven the most power-hungry watches<\/strong> (like that kick ass Fanmis watch above<\/a>) should have a battery life (usually lithium batteries<\/a>) that will last you at least a year, 2 years, or 3<\/strong> (a watch with nothing but a minute hand and hour hand could last you 10 years plus.<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nIf the watch only lasts you a couple of weeks, or months, then there’s usually 1 good reason for that:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s been sitting too long.<\/h2>\n

\nThat’s right. Often a watch may sit in a jeweler’s showcase<\/strong> for a year or more before it’s sold. Plus, often it will even sit in the manufacture’s warehouse<\/strong> for a while before it’s even shipped to a store.<\/p>\n

\nAll this time, the battery keeps going<\/strong>. The juice wears down. And by the time you get it, the end is near.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWe know, because we go through our watch stock periodically and replace cells that have expired<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

It happens.<\/h2>\n

\nSome watches (usually cheaper watches<\/strong>) come with a plastic pull tab<\/strong> that covers up the battery slot and prevents the cell from wearing down (which is good, because sometimes the battery in these “cheapies<\/strong>” can cost more than the watch itself.<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nExpensive watches generally don’t do this. After all, when you go to a jewelry store to purchase a $300 watch, you want to see it running.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

So what do I suggest?<\/h2>\n

\nTwo things…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n1) <\/strong>Ask if they have a battery warranty<\/strong> that comes with the watch. Most stores will guarantee <\/strong>that they’ll replace the cell free for the first year<\/strong> or more. Ask and find out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n2)<\/strong> See if they’ll put in a brand new battery upon purchase<\/strong> (or at least give you a spare battery<\/strong> in case it dies).<\/p>\n

Or just change the cell yourself.<\/h2>\n

\nYou can change the cell out yourself pretty cheaply<\/strong>… <\/p>\n

\nWith simple tools like:<\/strong> a case back opener, watch wrench, jeweler’s screwdrivers, and a watch case press<\/a>, you can change your cell in minutes<\/strong> (or just buy yourself an entire watch tool kit<\/a>, which has just about everything you need, and is pretty inexpensive<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nJust be careful, because some watches are tricky<\/strong>, and you can actually damage or even ruin your watch if you don’t know what you’re doing<\/strong>. <\/p>\n
