\nCrazy, cool cuts may be out of style soon<\/strong>, but, on the other hand, fancy cuts<\/strong> (every cut of diamond other than the round brilliant cut<\/strong>), are cheaper than rounds<\/strong>, and they also face up much bigger.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSo there’s a lot to be said about getting something different and unique<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThe round brilliant cut diamond may be the #1 cut in America<\/strong>, but there are many more great options<\/strong> to consider.<\/p>\n

So here they are…<\/h2>\n

    \nThe round brilliant cut diamond<\/a> is symmetrical and ideal<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

    \nIt looks great on any finger, and any setting<\/strong>. Plus, they have no sharp edges<\/strong> to get caught or snagged. It’s the easiest shape to wear.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \nWith an arrangement of facets that maximize the brilliance and sparkle in any round diamond, this cut, with 58 facets<\/strong>, is the ultimate stone with a traditional classic appeal, that never goes out of style<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    2) Princess Cut<\/h2>\n

    \nQuickly following on the brilliant cut’s heels are the princess cuts<\/a> (cut for your little princess no doubt<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

    \nBeing either square or rectangular<\/strong> in shape, these cuts are actually modified brilliant cuts<\/strong> (as most fancy cuts are – brilliant cutting style on the pavilion to enhance sparkle), and it really makes it light up and dance in your eyes<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

    \nWith 57 facets<\/strong> and a gigantic display, this cut quickly surpassed all other<\/strong> square cuts for popularity<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

    \nP.S.<\/strong> Make sure you get v-tipped prongs<\/strong>, versus regular round prongs, so the edges are protected and defined.<\/strong> (see image below)<\/p>\n

    3) Emerald Cut<\/h2>\n

    \nEmerald cut diamonds<\/a> are truly magnificent and striking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \nSadly, with few facets<\/strong> and few brilliance<\/strong>, you’ll need an awfully clean (very high clarity, like VS+<\/strong>) diamond in order to not notice the flaws<\/strong> in the stone. Sparkle helps hide inclusions<\/strong>, so without it, they tend to stand out like a sore thumb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \nWith straight, parallel lines and diagonal corners, the emerald cut is an older step cut style<\/strong> that’s stunning and sleek.<\/p>\n

    4) Square (Asscher Cut)<\/h2>\n

    \nAsscher cuts<\/a> are a lot like emerald cuts, but usually more square in shape<\/strong> with a starburst<\/strong> base. They have high crowns, deep pavilions, and very wide corners<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \nSquare cut stones always look wonderful in any engagement ring, but you’ll need a high quality stone<\/strong>, otherwise, the imperfections may be obvious<\/strong> (if you buy a diamond of at least SI1 clarity<\/strong>, you’ll need a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a> to see the flaws). <\/p>\n

    5) Oval Cut<\/h2>\n

    \nI love<\/strong> oval cuts<\/a>. They are just like round stones, but elongated and beautiful<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \nWith elegant curves, triangular facets<\/strong>, and a big over-all appearance, ovals have always been popular and appealing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \nClean, classy, and smooth, you can’t go wrong with ovals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    6) Radiant Cut<\/h2>\n

    \nRadiant cuts<\/a> are square cut stones that have 70 facets<\/strong> on them and are a proprietary name for cushion cuts<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

    \nThey look great in any mounting, and are just different enough<\/strong> to make your engagement ring unique and stand out.<\/p>\n

    \nPlus, they’re usually 20-30% cheaper than round cut stones<\/strong> of the same exact quality.<\/p>\n

    7) Pear Cut<\/h2>\n

    \nPear cuts<\/a> are a combination of a round diamond<\/strong> and a marquise diamond<\/strong> all rolled into one<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \nRounded at one end, and pointed at the other (also called tear dropped<\/strong>), these stunning cuts look great (wear the point down your fingers<\/strong>; towards your nails), because they make your fingers look longer and they still contain all the brilliance and sparkle of a round.<\/p>\n

    \nThere is no longer cut of diamond<\/strong> than the marquise cut<\/a> (which looks like the classic diamond on a playing card<\/strong>, as well as a boat or a standard “non-deflated<\/strong>” football<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

    \nDeveloped way back in 1740<\/strong>, these popular stones have curvy sides and pointed ends<\/strong> (some call them panty-hose rippers<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

    \nAnd, just like the princess <\/strong>cut and pear <\/strong>cut, protect those vulnerable points<\/strong> with v-tipped prongs<\/strong>. :)<\/p>\n

    \nThe cushion cut<\/a> is not only gaining in popularity<\/strong>, but they are also one of my favorite cuts of diamond<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \nA rounded off square stone (or rectangular) that’s easy on the eyes, fingers, and full of brilliance, sparkle and fire<\/strong> as well.<\/p>\n

    \nCushion cuts are one of those cuts of diamond that look big, but they also tend to run cheaper than rounds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \nIf you look good, you can find some really kick-ass deals<\/strong> (like these 1.50 VS1 carat diamonds for just $7,000<\/a>) :)<\/p>\n
