{"id":12631,"date":"2024-01-03T09:00:12","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T14:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/?p=12631"},"modified":"2024-01-03T14:12:17","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T19:12:17","slug":"what-are-blue-white-diamonds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/what-are-blue-white-diamonds\/","title":{"rendered":"WHAT ARE BLUE-WHITE DIAMONDS?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"blog-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/What-Is-Blue-White-Diamond-Color.gif\" alt=\"What Is Blue-White Diamond Color?\" title=\"What Is Blue-White Diamond Color?\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-12633\" \/><\/div>\n<h2>Blue white?<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>Blue-white is a historical term<\/strong> used to describe a certain diamond color.<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd even though it&#8217;s an <strong>older description<\/strong>, you may still find jewelers (<strong>unscrupulously<\/strong>) using the term today.<\/p>\n<p><h2>BEWARE!<\/h2>\n<p>\nBlue-white was used as a selling tool for &#8220;<strong>white<\/strong>&#8221; diamonds that had strong <strong>flashes of blue color<\/strong> in them (see image).<\/p>\n<p>\nIt was regarded as a <strong>top white diamond<\/strong>, or a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/loose-diamonds\/all-diamonds\/?Color=F,E,D&#038;Cut=Ideal,TrueHearts&#038;RingMatchID=22606?a_aid=JSDG\">pure-white diamond (D,E,F)<\/a>, <strong>the best of the best <\/strong>diamond colors.<\/p>\n<p><h2>A &#8220;premier&#8221; diamond.<\/h2>\n<p>\nBut those &#8220;<strong>pure white<\/strong>&#8221; diamonds were often <strong>false claims<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><h2>Fraud<\/h2>\n<p>\nBecause most &#8220;<strong>blue-white<\/strong>&#8221; diamonds sold on the market back then were <strong>not pure white stones<\/strong>, they were actually diamonds that looked whiter because of <strong>fluorescence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\n(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/diamond-fluorescence\/\">read all about fluorescence here.<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><h2>It&#8217;s true.<\/h2>\n<p>\nFluorescence can make a diamond <strong>appear whiter<\/strong> because it can make them look <strong>foggy, cloudy and oily<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><h2>It&#8217;s false color identity.<\/h2>\n<p>\nInstead, these diamonds not only <strong>looked hazy in natural light<\/strong>, but they also <strong>glowed in the dark<\/strong> (often <strong>blue <\/strong>under <strong>UV light<\/strong>, or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B00ESJ80NS\/?tag=jewelry-secrets-20\">black light<\/a>), so the name &#8220;<strong>blue-white<\/strong>&#8221; became very fitting for them.<\/p>\n<p><h2>Many people were taken or ripped off.<\/h2>\n<p>\nToday, blue-white <strong>should not be used<\/strong> in any sales presentation. It should not be used to describe any diamonds <strong>ever<\/strong>, and it <strong>should be avoided.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>It&#8217;s misleading.<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>And confusing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nConsumers think that they&#8217;re getting a really white <strong>valuable diamond<\/strong>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/loose-diamonds\/all-diamonds\/?Color=F,E,D&#038;Cut=Ideal,TrueHearts&#038;RingMatchID=22606?a_aid=JSDG\">like these pure-white diamonds here<\/a>, when in fact, they <strong>got suckered<\/strong> into a low-grade stones that were <strong>foggy with a whitish veil<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\nCompare a <strong>pure-white diamond<\/strong> up against a <strong>strong blue florescent diamond<\/strong> below&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Blue-White-Diamond-Color1.jpg\" alt=\"Blue White Diamond Color\" title=\"Blue White Diamond Color\" width=\"640\" height=\"475\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13794\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Blue-White-Diamond-Color1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Blue-White-Diamond-Color1-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Big difference.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>My advice:<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>Don&#8217;t buy diamonds with a strong fluorescence.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nIf you want a <strong>white diamond<\/strong>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/loose-diamonds\/all-diamonds\/?Color=F,E,D&#038;Cut=Ideal,TrueHearts&#038;RingMatchID=22606?a_aid=JSDG\">buy pure white stones.<\/a> Pure white, or colorless diamonds will look <strong>bright white<\/strong> and &#8220;<strong>POP<\/strong>&#8221; in the mounting like there&#8217;s a <strong>spot light<\/strong> on them.<\/p>\n<p>\nLeave blue-white in the <strong>past<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Where it belongs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nBecause it&#8217;s <strong>not <\/strong>white, it&#8217;s <strong>not <\/strong>blue&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><h2>It&#8217;s florescent.<\/h2>\n<p>\nAnd that&#8217;s something to really be &#8220;<strong>blue<\/strong>&#8221; about.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Cheers! :)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Blue white?
