\nWhat makes a Diamond Cheap?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many Things!<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s True<\/strong>. You could compare Two Diamonds (1 Carat for Example<\/strong>), and one could sell for Thousands of Dollars Less<\/strong> than the other.<\/p>\n

WHY?<\/h2>\n

\nIs there a reason one Diamond is So Cheap?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of Course!<\/h2>\n

\nThey’re Always <\/strong>Cheaper for a Reason.<\/p>\n

\nA Jeweler isn’t going to sell a Stone Thousands Cheaper just to be Nice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nEven if they Bought the Diamond at a Good Deal, Chances are, they’ll still Sell it for what it’s Worth<\/strong> (The Going Rate).<\/p>\n

Otherwise, Why Bother?<\/h2>\n

\nSo let’s Dive in and see why one Stone would be Sold Much Cheaper<\/strong> than another…<\/p>\n

\nStarting with…<\/strong><\/p>\n

1) Bad Cut<\/h2>\n

\nThe Cut of a Diamond is probably the #1 Reason WHY a Diamond is Cheaper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nPoor Cuts<\/strong>, or a Bad Make<\/strong>, makes the Diamond look Lumpy<\/strong>, or Thin, Dark<\/strong>, Lifeless and Sparkleless<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nPretty Much every reason why we LOVE Diamonds<\/strong> is Squashed by a Bad Cut.<\/p>\n

\nI would Stay away from Diamonds with Cut Grades of: Good, Fair, or Poor<\/strong> (As listed on a GIA Diamond Report<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\nStick with “Excellent<\/strong>” if you can (The BEST <\/strong>Cut), or “Very Good<\/strong>” the next Best Thing.<\/p>\n

\nThat way your Diamond will Sparkle Greatly, Regardless of Clarity, Color, or Carat Weight!<\/strong><\/p>\n

2) Low Clarity<\/h2>\n

\nIf the Diamond’s Cheap, it may be the Lowest Clarity Grades on the Market:<\/strong> The I Clarity Group (which is I1, I2, and I3<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nDiamonds in the I Clarity Grades WILL have Eye-Visible Flaws<\/strong> that are Easy to Spot<\/strong> just by looking at the Diamond (No Jeweler’s Loupe<\/a> or a Microscope<\/a> Needed).<\/p>\n

\nYou’ll often see Big Black Spots<\/strong>, Foggy Areas, Cracks<\/strong>, Lines, Fractures <\/strong>and Chips…<\/p>\n

That’s what I Clarity Means; Included!<\/h2>\n

\nIncluded and Eye-Visible!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIt’s also why it’s Cheap<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nDo you want your Fiancee to see Flaws for the Rest of her Life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nGenerally it’s Best to Purchase SI1 Clarity Diamonds or Higher<\/a>, just so the Imperfections stay Small, Unseen unless you use 10x Magnification<\/strong>, and won’t Detract from the Beauty of the Stone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3) Low Color<\/h2>\n

\nLet’s Face it, Yellow Diamonds Don’t Sell Well!<\/strong> A Diamond with a Yellow Hue makes the Stone Look Dingy, Old, and Stained<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Not Very Pretty!<\/h2>\n

\nGranted, 95% of all the Diamonds<\/strong> on the Market have some Degree of “Yellow<\/strong>” in them, but usually it’s the Near Colorless Range<\/strong> where it’s Not so Obvious.<\/p>\n

\nThe Low Color that I’m talking about is more in the K-L-M Ranges<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nThose are Stones where the Yellow becomes really Apparent<\/strong>, Dark, and tends to Stand out.<\/p>\n

\nBut hey, some People don’t mind a nice “Warm” Color<\/strong>, and it does bring the Price down Greatly. It all comes down to Preference<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nIf Color doesn’t bug you, look at a Lower Color Range and Save Yourself Some Money<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBut if you’re like Most, White Looks Better and Brighter<\/strong> (G-H-I-J). And if you’re Like Me, I ONLY Prefer Pure White Diamonds<\/a> (D-E-F – The Best Color Range there is<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

4) Fluorescence<\/h2>\n

\nThis often gets over looked because it’s Not a 4C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nPeople may not Realize that Fluorescence can Affect a Diamond so much<\/strong>, but it does in Price<\/strong>, and in Appearance<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nFluorescence can (not always) make a Diamond look Weird in Regular Light<\/strong> (Indoors or Outside).<\/p>\n

\nDiamonds with Fluorescence can look Foggy, Hazy, Cloudy or Blurry!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThis Fluorescence can make a High Quality Diamond (Like VS2, E<\/a>) look Poor and Lifeless!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAnd if the Diamond doesn’t Sparkle, who wants it???<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nNow it’s True that Fluorescence doesn’t Affect ALL Diamonds<\/strong>. Some Stones have it and look Normal to the Eye<\/strong>. But others will look like there’s a Film or Haze over the Stone.<\/p>\n

Like it’s Full of Smoke!<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s something that you need to see, to Appreciate.<\/p>\n

\nPlus, Fluorescence can also make your Diamond Glow In The Dark!<\/strong> If a Diamond has Fluorescence, it’ll be Listed right on the Diamond Report<\/strong>. Make sure you look for it. <\/p>\n

\nIf you want to stay Safe, and Not take a Chance that a Particular Stone could look Foggy or Odd<\/strong>, then SKIP Fluorescence<\/strong>, and look for “NONE<\/strong>” on the Certificate!<\/p>\n

5) Certification<\/h2>\n

\nGIA<\/a> (The Gemological Institute Of America), is the Leading and BEST Diamond Grading Company in the World<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBut, they’re also the Most Expensive<\/strong> and Most Strict!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSo many Jewelers, especially ones who want a more Lax Diamond Grade<\/strong>, will Opt for other Certification Companies (Like EGL and IGI<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nIt makes the Cost of the Stone Cheaper<\/strong>, makes the Grades of the Stone more Questionable<\/strong>, and makes the Diamond Appear Better than it really is<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I Don’t Advise them!<\/h2>\n

\nYou may Save a Couple of Bucks on the Report, but if it’s Not Accurate<\/strong>, or if the Quality is Bumped Up (Misrepresented<\/strong>), then it’s NOT a Deal<\/strong>, you’re Not getting the Real Quality you Wanted<\/strong>, and you’re Spending MORE <\/strong>for a Stone than you Should (Because you think you’re Buying an SI1<\/strong>, and it’s really an SI2<\/strong> – Just for Example).<\/p>\n

Don’t Do It!<\/h2>\n

\nStick with GIA, or AGS<\/strong>, and get an Accurate Report and the REAL Grade<\/strong> for your Diamond.<\/p>\n

6) Carat Weight<\/h2>\n

\nYou may ask to See and Compare a One Carat Diamond<\/strong>, and they’ll bring a Stone out and say “It’s an SI2, F, with Excellent Cut and No Fluorescence<\/a> (as an Example), and the Price is $3,900!<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

You Ask WHY The Price is So Cheap?<\/h2>\n

\nAnd they Say “We have Really Good Deals, and have the Best Prices on Diamonds in Town!<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

It Sounds GREAT!<\/h2>\n

\nUntil you find out that the Diamond is only .93 Carat<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\n“I Thought this was a One Carat?<\/strong>” You Ask.<\/p>\n

\n“It is!<\/strong> Carat Weights can Vary by as Much as 7 Points<\/strong> one way or the other!”<\/p>\n

And THAT Is TRUE!<\/h2>\n

\nBut it also makes it what they call a “Light Carat Weight<\/strong>” Diamond, which is SHY of the Real Mark<\/strong>, and it brings the Price of the Stone Down Big Time!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Usually by Hundreds or Thousands of Dollars!<\/h2>\n

\nIn fact, it’s Usually such a Good Deal<\/strong>, that I actually ADVISE it!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAppearance wise, the Stone will Look the Same Size<\/strong>, because the Eyes can’t Detect the Difference between a Couple of Points, but your Pocket Book will!<\/strong> :)<\/p>\n

\nSo if it’s Cheaper, it could be Less than the Actual Carat Weight thought… A One Carat could be .93, .94, .95, or so on, and a 1\/2 Carat (50 Points), could be just .43 Points instead<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It all makes it Cheaper!<\/h2>\n

\nBut, hey, if it Saves you $1,000<\/strong>, who’s going to Complain<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

\nLastly…<\/strong><\/p>\n

7) Diamond Shape<\/h2>\n

\nThe Round Diamond<\/strong> is the Most Expensive Cut<\/strong> there is (Because of Popularity <\/strong>and Demand<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nThese are Quickly followed by the Princess Cut<\/a>, the Second Most Popular Stone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBut did you know that all the other Shapes of Diamond are CHEAPER?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Take this Cushion Cut Diamond for Example:<\/h2>\n

\nThis Cushion Cut Diamond, SI1, G<\/a>, is Selling for $3,270.<\/p>\n

\nAs Compared to a Round Diamond with the Exact Same Specifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nOne Carat Round, SI1, G Diamond Selling for $6,010!<\/a><\/p>\n

That’s almost DOUBLE the Price!<\/h2>\n

\nEye Opener isn’t it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nJust the Shape itself is enough to Knock off THOUSANDS in Price!<\/strong><\/p>\n

INSANE!<\/h2>\n

\nThat’s some Savings!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSo the Shape may make a Diamond more Affordable <\/strong>as well, which is a Great thing!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nBut, if it’s Cheaper because of Clarity, Cut, Color, or Fluorescence, then you may want to Reconsider!<\/strong><\/p>\n

P.S.<\/h2>\n

\nOften, some Diamonds are even Cheaper because they AREN’T CERTIFIED as well!<\/strong> (Never Buy Those!<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nThey have No Diamond Report<\/strong>, just an Instore Appraisal <\/strong>which is Very Questionable and SCARY<\/strong>! (Who’s Grading your Stone? The Old Man in the Back Room???) You really don’t know WHAT Diamond or What Quality you’re Buying!<\/strong><\/p>\n

My Recommendation:<\/h2>\n

\nBuy a Stone that’s SI1 or Higher<\/strong>, Near Colorless or Higher<\/strong>, Certified by GIA<\/strong>, and ones with “Excellent<\/strong>” or “Very Good<\/strong>” Cuts and NO Fluorescence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As with these Diamonds Here at James Allen!<\/a><\/p>\n

\n…AND, By Buying ONLINE<\/strong>, that also makes the Stone Cheaper<\/strong>. They have No Overhead!<\/strong><\/p>\n

SWEET!<\/h2>\n

\nNow that’s a Cheap Diamond I LOVE!<\/strong><\/p>\n
