All the time I get people coming into the store that have been out shopping and comparing diamonds<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

I LOVE THAT!<\/h2>\n

\nBut then, I quickly find out that as much as they’re trying to decipher all the numbers and letter grades<\/strong> of the 4C’s, they aren’t doing a very good job at it.<\/p>\n

\nBecause they’re always mixing up color and clarity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For example:<\/h2>\n

\nOne guy last week comes in and is looking for an “I clarity<\/strong>” diamond. <\/p>\n

\nI pull an I1 clarity certified diamond<\/strong> out of the case and proceed to show him.<\/p>\n

\nHe says “I can see inclusions in the stone.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nI explain to him that “That’s what I clarity means, eye-visible inclusions.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nHe says the one he looked at earlier didn’t have visible flaws<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I ask more about the quality…<\/h2>\n

\nHe says that the color of the diamond was “S1<\/strong>“…<\/p>\n

“Oh,” I get it…<\/h2>\n

\n“SI1<\/strong> is the clarity, I is the color.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nNow it all makes sense.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There’s a BIG DIFFERENCE!<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s almost like night and day<\/strong>, see an SI1 diamond<\/a> and I1 diamond<\/a> below…<\/p>\n

\n\"Compare<\/p>\n

Crazy difference, right?<\/h2>\n

But many times, customers really get them confused <\/strong>to the point where they have NO IDEA<\/strong> what they’re comparing.<\/p>\n

\n“I think it was ‘V<\/strong>‘ clarity and ‘white<\/strong>‘ color.”<\/p>\n

\nWhich could mean “VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2<\/strong> clarity, as well as D-E-F-G-H-I-J<\/strong> color”.<\/p>\n

\nThat could be THOUSANDS <\/strong>of different diamond combinations.<\/p>\n

\nSo unless you really know… <\/p>\n

YOU WILL PROBABLY GET RIPPED OFF!<\/h2>\n

\nIt gets nearly impossible<\/strong> to really compare quality, when you’re trying to recall all the different diamonds you’ve seen and heard all day long.<\/p>\n

\nIf you truly want to compare stones, and not get I, F<\/strong>, mixed up with IF, or I, or F<\/strong> (HUGE DIFFERENCE in LOOKS and PRICE<\/strong>), then get your facts straight.<\/p>\n

Write it all down<\/h2>\n

\nGet the diamond quality in writing<\/strong>. Have them put it on the back of a business card<\/strong>. That way you have the store, salesperson, exact diamond quality and price<\/strong> all for quick recall and comparison<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBecause F3, or SV, or D2 sounds more like bingo or battleship<\/strong>… Not diamond clarity or color.<\/p>\n

Diamond color grades:<\/h2>\n

\nTo get familiar with the color grades<\/strong> again, look at the chart below…<\/p>\n

\nAnd to see the clarity grades<\/strong>, see the image below…<\/p>\n

\n\"Diamond<\/p>\n

\nTry not to confuse them, because as you saw in the example above, it could be thousands of dollars different<\/strong>, and it could go from getting a really nice diamond<\/strong>, to getting a poor, low quality<\/strong> one.<\/p>\n
