As much as I emphasize “GIA certified diamonds<\/strong>“, and try to educate customers and readers, one thing’s apparent:<\/p>\n

It doesn’t really matter.<\/h2>\n

\n99% of all consumers<\/strong> don’t care “who<\/strong>” certifies the diamond, only that “it is” certified.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSo to them, GIA, EGL, IGI, AGS and HRD<\/strong> are all the same<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s a “certified<\/strong>” stone, and in their eyes, it means the quality is verified, accurate, and authentic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIf the certificate (really called a diamond report<\/strong>) says that a diamond is SI2, I, then by all means, it’s an SI2, I.<\/p>\n

Right?<\/h2>\n

\nWRONG!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nYou’re buying into B.S.<\/strong>, and the only one hurting is you <\/strong>and your pocketbook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nFor most diamond grading companies are lax and loose<\/strong>, and grade diamonds differently.<\/p>\n

\nSome don’t have the right equipment<\/strong>, or are using old, out-of-date machines that don’t give proper readings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nAnd some companies even add in extra grades<\/strong> (that GIA doesn’t recognize) that only confuse the public more<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

(I’m looking at you SI3)<\/h2>\n

\nMany grading institutes are very lenient in their opinions, and will “bump<\/strong>” the grades up (so an I1 becomes an SI2<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nThis makes the stones look better, sell better, and makes more money.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWhich makes the jeweler’s happy<\/strong> and want to use them even more.<\/p>\n

\nNot to mention the fact that these so-called-certificates are cheaper and quicker<\/strong> (just days turn-around time). That’s why, even though GIA is the best<\/strong> (and everyone will agree <\/strong>on this), you’ll still see all the other certs instead.<\/p>\n

\nGIA takes longer, cost’s more, and is more strict in their reports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBut, if it was your store, and you could send in a stone and get a “fudged<\/strong>” certificate (still legal by the FTC guidelines<\/strong>), then why <\/strong>Wouldn’t you?<\/p>\n

You’d make more money.<\/h2>\n

\nAnd money = business.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThat’s just the way it goes.<\/p>\n

So what should you do?<\/h2>\n

\nBuy only one diamond report: GIA.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nothing else.<\/h2>\n

\n(AGS is a second best bet<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nIt’s GIA <\/strong>all the way. If you want the most accurate report possible… Otherwise, you may be paying more for that diamond<\/strong> and not getting the grade you expected.<\/p>\n

\nBecause all certificates are not created equal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nJust because the sales rep says “This diamond is certified<\/strong>“, doesn’t mean squat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nUnless it’s “GIA certified.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

SO ASK!<\/h2>\n

\nAsk if it’s GIA, because nobody beats GIA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nNo other companies compare.<\/p>\n

Are you buying the right certified stone?<\/h2>\n

\nMaybe, maybe not.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSo if it’s not GIA…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then don’t buy it.<\/h2>\n
