{"id":13325,"date":"2023-10-06T08:00:44","date_gmt":"2023-10-06T12:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/?p=13325"},"modified":"2023-10-06T09:03:21","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T13:03:21","slug":"the-diamonds-certified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/the-diamonds-certified\/","title":{"rendered":"THE DIAMOND&#8217;S &#8220;CERTIFIED&#8221;!??"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"blog-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/The-Diamond-Is-Certified.gif\" alt=\"The Diamond Is Certified\" title=\"The Diamond Is Certified\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-13326\" \/><\/div>\n<p>As much as I emphasize &#8220;<strong>GIA certified diamonds<\/strong>&#8220;, and try to educate customers and readers, one thing&#8217;s apparent:<\/p>\n<p><h2>It doesn&#8217;t really matter.<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>99% of all consumers<\/strong> don&#8217;t care &#8220;<strong>who<\/strong>&#8221; certifies the diamond, only that <strong>&#8220;it is&#8221; certified.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nSo to them, <strong>GIA, EGL, IGI, AGS and HRD<\/strong> are all the <strong>same<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nIt&#8217;s a &#8220;<strong>certified<\/strong>&#8221; stone, and in their eyes, it means the quality is <strong>verified, accurate, and authentic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nIf the certificate (really called a <strong>diamond report<\/strong>) says that a diamond is SI2, I, then by all means, it&#8217;s an SI2, I.<\/p>\n<p><h2>Right?<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>WRONG!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>You&#8217;re buying into B.S.<\/strong>, and the only one hurting is <strong>you <\/strong>and your <strong>pocketbook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nFor most diamond grading companies are <strong>lax and loose<\/strong>, and grade diamonds differently.<\/p>\n<p>\nSome don&#8217;t have the <strong>right equipment<\/strong>, or are using old, out-of-date machines that don&#8217;t give <strong>proper readings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd some companies even add in <strong>extra grades<\/strong> (that GIA doesn&#8217;t recognize) that only <strong>confuse the public more<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><h2>(I&#8217;m looking at you SI3)<\/h2>\n<p>\nMany grading institutes are very lenient in their opinions, and will &#8220;<strong>bump<\/strong>&#8221; the grades up (<strong>so an I1 becomes an SI2<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>\nThis makes the stones look better, sell better, and <strong>makes more money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Which makes the jeweler&#8217;s happy<\/strong> and want to use them even more.<\/p>\n<p>\nNot to mention the fact that these so-called-certificates are <strong>cheaper and quicker<\/strong> (just days turn-around time). That&#8217;s why, even though <strong>GIA is the best<\/strong> (and everyone will <strong>agree <\/strong>on this), you&#8217;ll still see all the other certs instead.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>GIA takes longer, cost&#8217;s more, and is more strict in their reports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nBut, if it was your store, and you could send in a stone and get a &#8220;<strong>fudged<\/strong>&#8221; certificate (<strong>still legal by the FTC guidelines<\/strong>), then <strong>why <\/strong>Wouldn&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n<p><h2>You&#8217;d make more money.<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>And money = business.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nThat&#8217;s just the way it goes.<\/p>\n<p><h2>So what should you do?<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>Buy only one diamond report: GIA.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>Nothing else.<\/h2>\n<p>\n(<strong>AGS is a second best bet<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>\nIt&#8217;s <strong>GIA <\/strong>all the way.
