I know I talked about girdles<\/strong> many times before, but now<\/strong>, it’s worthless!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIf you ever want to know why some diamonds look smaller<\/strong> than other diamonds of the exact same carat weight<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

It’s all because of the cut.<\/h2>\n

\nSome diamonds are cut deeper<\/strong> than others, and some have extra weight around the waist<\/strong>, that is unnecessary <\/strong>and not needed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s called a thick girdle.<\/h2>\n

\nAnd actually, to be exact<\/strong>, it’s called an “extremely thick girdle<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

\nCompare a regular girdle<\/strong>, to an extremely thick girdle below.<\/p>\n

\nThat really thick girdle is there for one reason only<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

To add carat weight to the stone.<\/h2>\n

\nBecause a bigger carat weight<\/strong> equals bigger prices<\/strong> and bigger profits.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But you know what sucks?<\/h2>\n

\nThis ultra thick girdle is not helping the diamond<\/strong> any.<\/p>\n

First off…<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s an eye-sore.<\/strong> It stands out really obvious <\/strong>and very distracting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Secondly…<\/h2>\n

\nIt makes it difficult to set and secure in the prongs<\/strong> because they can’t easily wrap around<\/strong> that thick edge.<\/p>\n

Third…<\/h2>\n

\nIt makes the diamond less brilliant<\/strong>. A poor cut like this makes the diamond look lumpy and lack brilliance and sparkle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

And lastly…<\/h2>\n

\nIt makes the diamond look smaller.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAll the carat weight is below the crown where you don’t see it unless you turn the diamond sideways<\/strong>. And from a top-down view, it will look much smaller<\/strong>, which is not cool.<\/strong><\/p>\n
