Here’s something you shouldn’t get confused<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

GIA is NOT GIA Certified!<\/h2>\n

\nWhat?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThey both sound the same<\/strong>, but aren’t.<\/p>\n

\nGIA<\/strong> is the Gemological Institute of America<\/a>. They devised the 4C’s<\/strong>. They grade diamonds and give out the most accurate <\/strong>and strict<\/strong> diamonds reports in the world.<\/p>\n

And then we have “GIA certified”.<\/h2>\n

\nA jewelry store can sell a stone, stating that it’s “GIA certified<\/strong>“, without GIA ever looking at that diamond<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

HOW?<\/h2>\n

\nBecause GIA has diamond courses called “Graduate Diamonds Program<\/a>“, that allow someone to go through the course, test at a facility<\/strong>, and become “GIA certified<\/strong>” themselves. <\/p>\n

\nWhich means; they have graduated as a Diamontologist <\/strong>and have GIA’s stamp of approval to grade diamonds and detect diamond synthetics, treatments, and simulants.<\/p>\n

\nThey will be able to make more money being a “GIA” graduate<\/strong>. They can work in the jewelry industry as an appraiser, gemologist, or in-store diamond expert<\/strong>, or even go on to own their own store (although it’s not needed<\/strong>). <\/p>\n

\nBut the cool thing is, they can grade and evaluate<\/strong> stones at their convenience.<\/p>\n

Not up to par<\/h2>\n

\nWhich also means, they may know and understand GIA’s extensive grading system<\/strong>. They may be accredited and respected, but they are still one person<\/strong>. It’s their opinion on what that particular stone is. When GIA grades a diamond, they use “triple redundancy<\/strong>“, which is at least 3 experts agreeing on a grade<\/strong>. But one person gets one opinion<\/strong>, and that opinion may be influenced by their eye-sight, money, the surrounding atmosphere, the lighting source, or even their moods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThey also may not have the most expensive, nor technological advanced grading devices<\/strong> (I’m sure they don’t!)<\/p>\n

\nIn other words, their opinion may not be as accurate<\/strong> as GIAs would be.<\/p>\n

FIND OUT…<\/h2>\n

\nSo if you, the consumer, are looking at diamonds and the salesclerk, website, or catalog lists the stone as “GIA certified<\/strong>“, find out exactly what that means.<\/p>\n

\nFor it may not be a shiny, new, laminated, hologrammed<\/strong>, or security sealed report like this one (as compared to a “jewelry appraisal<\/strong>” that was appraised by a “GIA<\/strong>” certified individual. <\/p>\n

It could even have a value on it!<\/h2>\n

\n(Which GIA will never do<\/strong>!)<\/p>\n

\nSo if you truly want a GIA certified diamond<\/strong> (like these diamonds here<\/a>), do make sure it’s from GIA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nAnd not someone who’s taken a course, and may be good at passing tests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
