There’s truth to the phrase:<\/p>\n

\n“Bigger Diamonds get Bigger Flaws!<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nBut in reality, the flaws don’t really get any bigger, they just become more obvious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nAnd this is because bigger diamonds have a bigger viewing area<\/strong>. It’s much easier to look into a big stone and see flaws.<\/p>\n

\nLook at a half carat diamond, the flaws are small, hard to see, almost invisible<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nBut look into a carat and up, and the flaws stand out like a sore thumb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2 carats, 3 carats, 4…<\/h2>\n

\nYou’ll see tons and tons of flaws<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s very normal in large stones (anything over 1 carat<\/strong>) to see huge eye-visible flaws. They just get so rare in nature that it’s a common sight to see. 75% of them will be “included<\/strong>“, which is I1, I2 and I3 clarity<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nThat’s just the way it goes.<\/p>\n

Nature is not perfect.<\/h2>\n

\nAnd when you shop for big stones, almost all the jewelers will carry I quality stones<\/strong>. Most of this is just because of price.<\/p>\n

\nBecause even a 2+ carat, of I clarity is still a hefty price tag<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBy carrying I clarity, at least they make the stone somewhat affordable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nTo see what I mean, compare these two stones below. One diamond is an I1 clarity diamond, and the other is a VVS1<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

Crazy, eh?<\/h2>\n

\nWith diamonds this large, not only is clarity more apparent, but so is color<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nA J colored diamond<\/a> will appear much more yellow than a 3\/4 carat diamond<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\nSo unless you spend an arm and a leg, you’ll probably end up getting an I clarity diamond with I color<\/strong>. That’s pretty much average <\/strong>quality in large diamonds.<\/p>\n

\nAnd that quality is I, I… <\/p>\n

\nAs in “Aye, Aye Captain!<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nAnd yes, that’s also why we call them “Sailor<\/strong>” diamonds.<\/p>\n
