Rubbing on teeth?<\/h2>\n

\nBelieve it or not, but this is one of the easiest (and grossest<\/strong>) ways to determine if pearls are real or not!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rub the pearl on your teeth!<\/h2>\n

\nI’ve seen many jewelers do this (especially if a customer is selling a pearl strand, and they want to verify if the pearls are fake or genuine<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nThey rub the pearl across their front teeth (hopefully the pearls have been cleaned<\/strong>). I know it sounds crazy, but it’s a great indicator in identification<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

This is what you do:<\/h2>\n

\nYou pick the pearl up, and gently rub it up and down<\/strong> and across your front upper teeth (because they’re the most sensitive). If the pearl feels smooth and slippery<\/strong>, the pearl in question is probably fake<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nFake pearls tend to feel like plastic or glassy, perfectly smooth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nReal pearls on the other hand, are organic and porous, and their nacre will feel more rough, sandy and gritty<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nYou’ll actually be able to feel the vibrations and roughness<\/strong> on your incisors. It’s cool<\/strong> and it works<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Try it, you’ll see!<\/h2>\n

\nSo if you ever notice a jeweler gnawing on a pearl necklace<\/strong>…<\/p>\n
