An acquaintance of mine comes over yesterday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nWe’re talking, and as normal, I’m looking at her jewelry<\/strong> (I notice everyone’s jewelry and usually comment on them).<\/p>\n

\nWell I ask her when’s the last time she’s had them checked<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

\nShe says “It’s been a while.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nSo I grab my loupe<\/strong> (a BelOMO 10x triplet loupe\/)<\/a> and tell her to take them off. I look at them magnified <\/strong>and see that her one diamond ring, the big one<\/strong>, has a marquise diamond in the center, and all four middle prongs are so low and flat, that they look like paper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nReally, they’re so thin that I’m shocked<\/strong> that the stone is still even in the mounting.<\/p>\n

\nThe tips are so non-existent<\/strong>, that they’re perfectly smooth to the diamond surface.<\/p>\n

That’s low.<\/h2>\n

\nThe only thing truly holding in her rock were the two prongs on the tips of the stone. Other than that, it’s a gonner.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nI tell her what I see<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nShe says she had a jeweler re-tip them about 20 years ago<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

20 Years?<\/h2>\n

\n(Should probably be done every 7 years<\/strong> or so – depending on how often you wear your ring and how rough you are on your jewelry)<\/p>\n

\nIt’s like driving on bald tires<\/strong>, across country, in a snowstorm, uphill.<\/p>\n

Definitely not safe.<\/h2>\n

\nI advised her to not wear her ring anymore<\/strong> until she’s had it repaired.<\/p>\n

\nAnd you know what’s funny, when I tell customers this about their rings, they’ll thank me for letting them know, and then they’ll proceed to put the ring back on and wear it out (now that’s a very risky decision indeed<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nBut this just goes to show you that people really do put their rings on and forget about them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThey’ll literally wear them an entire lifetime<\/strong>, and never have them looked at, cleaned, inspected, nothing. <\/p>\n

\nAnd then people wonder why their stones come loose, fall out, and they lose their precious little diamond<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Don’t be one of those people.<\/h2>\n

\nBuy yourself a loupe <\/strong>(they’re cheap enough<\/a>), and look at your prongs from time to time (like now<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nAnd if they feel flat to the touch<\/strong>, are jagged or raised, catch on clothing<\/strong>, or if the prongs are broken<\/strong>, bent, uneven, crooked<\/strong>, or cracked… <\/p>\n

GET THEM FIXED!<\/h2>\n

\nSo get a closer inspection today.<\/strong><\/p>\n
