Many people are faced with this problem<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

It Won’t Fit!<\/h2>\n

\nYou see, couples come into the jewelry store to upgrade their diamond<\/strong> to get a bigger one.<\/p>\n

\nWhich is awesome…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWhether it be for an anniversary, birthday, certain milestone, graduation, christmas, or just “buy a diamond day<\/strong>“, they come in with high hopes of a bigger center stone<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nBut, a lot of times they hear this:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“A Bigger Diamond WON’T FIT!”<\/h2>\n

\nThis is because many mountings have built-in heads<\/strong> that can’t be altered. They only hold one size<\/strong>. Some mountings make it impossible <\/strong>to enlarge the area enough for a nice upgrade. And a lot of the newer mountings on the market are like this, like the invisible set<\/strong> mountings, tension set<\/strong> mountings, or many highly popular pave mountings<\/strong>. They all look wonderful, but they cause problems later, for you can’t super-size them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nLike these mountings shown below, none of them will hold a larger stone<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nThis all means that you’re stuck with 4 options:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Don’t do anything<\/strong> – Keep your ring the way it is<\/li>\n
  2. Upgrade the cut, color, and clarity<\/strong> – keeping the carat weight the same<\/li>\n
  3. Trade-in the entire ring<\/strong> – just hand it over for a totally brand new one<\/li>\n
  4. Custom make a ring <\/strong> – have the jewelers design a ring just like your’s that will hold a bigger stone<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Going Bigger Can Create Other Issues…<\/h2>\n

    \nFor not only is a bigger diamond more costly<\/strong>, but you usually have to double up the price<\/strong> of the trade-in anyway. And… Then you still have to pay for the bigger head<\/strong> and the labor <\/strong>involved to set it.<\/p>\n

    \nGenerally it’s advised (the easy way out<\/strong>), to just keep your old ring or switch it to another hand<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

    \nOr, you can always have all the diamonds removed from the old mounting as well and turned into other items, like earrings, pendants, or another ring (you do need a pinky ring don’t you?<\/strong>) Then, you can then use the empty mounting (gold) <\/strong>as a trade-in (and some people will turn that mounting into a whole new look by setting a gemstone<\/strong>, like a Sapphire or Ruby into the ring! All good ideas<\/strong>!)<\/p>\n

    \nOthers will just trade the whole kit-cat-and-caboodle<\/strong> in for a ring that will be more modern, stylish, and hold a bigger stone<\/strong> (at least for another 10-20 years).<\/p>\n

    \nLike these mountings shown below will all handle upgrades easily<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

    “Can This Be Upgraded?”<\/h2>\n

    \nA good thing is to ASK at the time of purchase<\/strong> is if the diamond can be upgraded to a bigger stone<\/strong> at a later date. <\/p>\n

    Just in case!<\/h2>\n

    \nFor this response may sway what you buy<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

    \nAnd also note that some mountings just don’t look good<\/strong> with a bigger stone. They may be off-balance or top heavy<\/strong>… <\/p>\n

    \nAnd lastly…<\/strong> A bigger stone means you will be hitting the diamond<\/strong> more. So make sure it’s protected <\/strong>as much as possible, and covered under your insurance<\/strong>! :)<\/p>\n

    Because bigger is better…<\/h2>\n
