The ring should be sized for the finger, not the knuckle. Meaning, it needs to be snug on the knuckle, so it’ll fit better once it’s on.

But often you’ll find that the ring is sized so it slides on and off the finger easy, meaning… If your hands get wet, the ring slips off, and when you wear it, it just flops around, gets banged, and spins like crazy.

So how do you fix this?

There are 3 ways to fix a spinning ring:

Get it resized to fit properly

Put on a ring guard

Use a Ring Noodle

Let’s take a closer look…

Get it resized to fit properly

Take the ring back to the jewelry store where you bought it from, or if you can’t, just find a reputable jeweler in town. Have them double check the size of the ring and the size of your finger. Who knows, maybe when you originally had your finger sized your fingers were puffy or swollen? This happens to fingers throughout the day, and of course, certain times of the month. It’s just a fact of life. Have them check the sizing, generally it’ll only need to be sized down a half-size or a full size. Just enough to snug it up, where you have to push to get it over the knuckle, and then it won’t spin anymore.

Put on a ring guard

Ring Guards are metal strips (you can get them in white or yellow) that get bent around the shank of your ring. They make the ring fit tighter, and keep it from falling off or spinning. They work well, but, they can also pinch the skin of your finger on the sides (because of the metal wrapped around), and they can also leave indentations and scratches in your band. It’s not a big deal, jewelers have used these forever. You can pick up some ring guards here, and the proper pliers to wraps those tabs as well!

Use a Ring Noodle

Ring Noodles are the cheapest and simplest way to make any ring fit better. It’s just a tube of flexible plastic that slips over your ring on the bottom, and prevents it from spinning around and sliding off your finger. It’s quick, painless, and does no harm to the ring. Plastic sizers like these go by many different names: Ring Noodles, Ring Snuggies… They all do the same thing and it’s good to pick up a box of them. Especially if you lost weight (congrats) and none of your rings fit anymore.

And that’s it!

One of these three common ways will keep your rings from spinning…

But there are two more…

Sizing Balls

Sizing balls are used when people have big knuckles, like arthritis, and you can’t possibly size a ring smaller. The jeweler can solder in little gold balls in the shank (see image), and it snugs the ring up enough, and still allows you to slip it over your finger. They work great!

Arthritic shanks

This is the last resort… Because it’s so expensive, and more than half of the ring needs to be cut off. Yes, that’s right. The jeweler actually removes the entire bottom half of your ring, and replaces it with a band that opens up with a hinge, so you can slip it over the knuckle, and then it closes up again and snaps in place. We’ve had to do tons of these, but for those ladies and men who can’t wear rings otherwise, it’s a small price to pay to be able to wear your rings again. They look like this!

There! No more ring spin!

These are all the tricks and tips to keeping your diamond ring from flopping…

Other than using string, like you did in high school! :)

Because a loose ring gets hit throughout the day, and does nothing but damage and harm your stones.

And that’s not cool either.

Get it sized properly, or snug it up!

P.S. There is one more NEW product on the market, which I’ve never tested, called a Ring Shrinker. It’s a resin that you apply to the inside of your ring that firms it up and makes it fit. It may be the item you’re looking for. Check out Ring Shrinker here!

Cheers! :)

If your ring spins… The basic reason why your engagement ring, or any ring would spin is simple… It’s too big for your finger!
