\nFor I’ll give you the only 4 pieces of information<\/strong> that you truly need to buy a stunning diamond<\/strong>, full of brilliance, life, and sparkle…<\/p>\n

\nAnd it really is as easy as:<\/strong><\/p>\n

4 little steps<\/h2>\n

\nSo let’s dive in…<\/strong><\/p>\n

1) GIA Certified<\/h2>\n

\nIf you want to keep yourself from getting scammed<\/strong>, ripped off, taken advantage of<\/strong>, then make sure you buy a loose diamond<\/strong> that’s certified (comes with a diamond report<\/strong>) by GIA <\/strong>(The Gemological Institute of America<\/a>). That’s the only diamond report<\/strong> you must <\/em>ask for.<\/p>\n

\nGIA is strict, the biggest and best in the industry, highly respected<\/strong>, admired by all, and…<\/p>\n

They Devised the Current 4C’s System!<\/h2>\n

\nThe system that every jeweler across America uses to grade, buy, and sell diamonds, uses this grading system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

GIA wrote the book!<\/h2>\n

\nSo above all else, opt for nothing less than GIA<\/strong> (not IGI, not EGL, nor Gemex…) Nothing else. GIA, period!<\/strong><\/p>\n

2) Diamond Cut<\/h2>\n

\nCut is crucial!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Luckily, it’s now easy to understand<\/strong>… Especially when you’re buying a GIA certified diamond. For GIA has 5 cut grades<\/strong>; Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor…<\/p>\n

\nBut to get a top-notch diamond<\/strong>, one that has more <\/em>sparkle and pizzazz than any other stone, make sure your diamond is graded “EXCELLENT<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

\nAnd, if you can also get “EXCELLENT” grades in both “polish” and “symmetry”<\/strong> (they go hand in hand with CUT), then that’s a huge bonus<\/strong>. For these “triple excellent<\/strong>” rated diamonds are the best of the best<\/strong>. They are called super-ideal cut diamonds<\/strong> (like true hearts<\/a>, hearts on fire, signature cuts), and they are outstanding in dazzle<\/strong>, brilliance, fire, and scintillation (light effects).<\/p>\n

\nSo look for “excellent<\/strong>“, it makes a big, BIG<\/em> difference!<\/p>\n

3) SI1 Clarity or Higher<\/h2>\n

\nYou don’t want visible flaws!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nEasy as that. You don’t want her to see black spots, or lines, clouds, fractures, or chips in the stone (for the rest of her life)…<\/p>\n

It just won’t do!<\/h2>\n

\nSo that’s why you must stick with SI1 clarity or higher<\/strong> (VS, VVS)… Diamonds SI1 or higher are “eye-clean<\/strong>” diamonds, and have no visible inclusions<\/strong>. None! (You’ll need a 10x microscope<\/a> or a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a> to see them – which is awesome!<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nOnly once you magnify these beautiful stones (SI1 or higher), will you see those tiny identifying marks<\/strong>. Those are a diamond’s fingerprint, and each and every diamond is unique and different (a fascinating world). <\/p>\n

\nSo SI1 clarity (the best selling clarity<\/strong>, for that reason), is the clarity you should buy (and it also keeps the price down<\/strong>, versus a VS or VVS clarity diamond).<\/p>\n

4) NO Fluorescence!<\/h2>\n

\nFluorescence is a phenomenon <\/strong>that can make a diamond appear cloudy<\/strong> or hazy in natural light (it also makes it glow-in-the-dark<\/strong> under UV light, or black light<\/a>).<\/p>\n

This isn’t good!<\/h2>\n

\nEspecially if you’ve bought a high quality stone<\/strong>… And it still looks foggy<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

\nSo double check the “fluorescence<\/strong>” grade on the GIA diamond report. It should say “none<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

    1. No Sizing –<\/strong> Don’t get the ring sized (yet). For sizing can actually VOID <\/strong>a return policy! Get it sized AFTER <\/strong>you give it to her (and she says YES<\/strong>).<\/li>\n
    2. 14kt White Gold –<\/strong> Have it set in 14kt white gold. White gold metals tend to make a stunning diamond “POP<\/strong>” more in the mounting. It doesn’t add any yellow into the stone.<\/li>\n
    3. Don’t worry about COLOR –<\/strong> Most diamonds on the market are white or off-white<\/strong> in hue (Colorless or Near Colorless). Which all tend to appear white, and most people see no difference anyway. Only if the stone appears visibly yellow<\/strong>, would I skip it!<\/li>\n
    4. Carat Weight –<\/strong> Buy the biggest you can afford<\/strong> (without sacrificing any of these 4 crucial points). You can always upgrade to a bigger stone later (Anniversaries <\/strong>are great for this).<\/li>\n
    5. Insure the Ring –<\/strong> Diamond rings are expensive, so before you give it to her, throw it on your insurance policy<\/strong> or home-owners… (have you seen those videos of people proposing and dropping the ring in the ocean???<\/strong>) Ouch!<\/em><\/li>\n
    6. Simple Simple –<\/strong> Keep the mounting simple. The showpiece is the center stone (and always will be). You don’t want to detract from that<\/strong>. A plain band<\/a>, or just a few diamonds down the side or a halo around the stone are perfect (plus, a simple mounting is cheaper<\/strong>!)<\/li>\n
    7. Cheaper Shapes –<\/strong> Round Brilliant Cuts are the most popular<\/strong> shape of stone, but Princess Cuts are cheaper <\/strong>(any of the Fancy Cuts are cheaper than Round). Plus, fancy cuts tend to look bigger<\/strong> as well.<\/li>\n
    8. Return Policy –<\/strong> Make sure that the store or website that you buy your diamond from has a 100% money-back-guarantee<\/strong>. Just in case!<\/em><\/li>\n
    9. Microscope the Stone –<\/strong> Make sure you view the diamond under 10x magnification BEFORE<\/strong> you buy the stone, just so you can see and identify the small inclusions inside the diamond.<\/li>\n
    10. Pay Cash –<\/strong> If you can, pay cash. Money talks<\/strong>. Often, paying cash can get you a better deal<\/strong>. If not, look into interest free financing (just make sure you pay on time or you could get bombarded with huge interest fees and penalties). Lay-a-way also works!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
