Buying a Diamond?<\/h2>\n

\nGood, for here are 10 things<\/strong> that everyone should know about buying diamonds<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

In fact, they’re MUSTS!<\/h2>\n

\nBecause these 10 things will not only get you a kick ass diamond<\/strong> with tons of sparkle and brilliance<\/strong>, but it will also save you money<\/strong>, AND keep you from getting ripped off<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So let’s begin:<\/h2>\n

\n10 loose diamond MUSTS<\/strong>, starting with…<\/p>\n

1) Set a Budget<\/h2>\n

\nDon’t go into buying diamonds blindly. Set yourself a budget<\/strong>, an amount that you’re comfortable with and stick to it. It’s too easy to double up or triple your purchase once you start looking at diamond quality<\/strong>. If you must skimp somewhere, cut back on SIZE!<\/strong> You can always upgrade later (that’s what Anniversaries<\/strong> are for).<\/p>\n

2) Buy GIA Certified ONLY<\/h2>\n

\nForget all the other companies that grade diamonds (like EGL or IGI<\/strong>). Only buy GIA <\/strong>(Gemological Institute of America) certified diamonds. That way you’ll get the most accurate diamond report<\/strong> on earth.<\/p>\n

3) Fancy Cuts are Cheaper<\/h2>\n

\nAlmost all fancy cut diamonds are cheaper than round brilliant cuts<\/strong> (if the quality is alike). Fancy cuts are literally every cut other than round, like; Princess, Oval, Pear, Radiant, Heart, Marquise… They are all cheaper than the common round cut. In fact, some cuts, like the cushion cut diamond<\/a>, is about HALF the price of a brilliant<\/strong>. That’s a lot of savings!<\/strong><\/p>\n

4) Get a Better Cut<\/h2>\n

\nOpt for an “Excellent<\/strong>” grade in cut, and your diamond will sparkle like crazy<\/strong>. Excellent is the best you can get, and has more of an impact<\/strong> on the beauty and the brilliance of a stone than any other diamond aspect (any of the other 4C’s<\/a>).<\/p>\n

5) SI1 Clarity or Higher<\/h2>\n

\nStick with SI1 clarity<\/strong> (Slightly Included) or HIGHER<\/strong>, and you will get a diamond that’s clean to the eye<\/strong> (except under a powerful microscope<\/a>), and will appear just like a Flawless diamond<\/a> (but without the hefty price tag).<\/p>\n

\nSI1 diamonds have small inclusions<\/strong>, invisible to the eye, but easy to spot under 10x magnification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nSI1 is also the most popular clarity grade on the market<\/a>, because they look so good, and keep the price down.<\/p>\n

6) Go for Colorless<\/h2>\n

\nIf you really want your diamond to “WOW<\/strong>” people (and her<\/strong>), buy a colorless diamond.<\/p>\n

\nColorless diamonds are pure white diamonds<\/strong> (color ranges: D, E, and F<\/a>), and look ultra bright and ultra white (like there’s a spot light<\/strong> on them). <\/p>\n

\nThey’re breathtaking and stunning and once you see and compare a pure white stone, you’ll never want anything less<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThey’re that awesome!<\/strong><\/p>\n

7) No Fluorescence<\/h2>\n

\nCheck the diamond report<\/strong>, make sure it says “none<\/strong>” under the Fluorescence grade. Otherwise, your diamond could look foggy or cloudy or hazy<\/strong> in natural light. And that’s not a good thing, especially if you’ve bought a high clarity and high color diamond.<\/p>\n

\nFluorescent diamonds do glow-in-the-dark<\/strong> as well, which sounds cool, but not if they appear milky in nature<\/strong>. Granted, not all diamond with fluorescence have a visual effect, but it’s something you won’t know until you see it with your very own eyes. Which is why I say it’s safer to just say “NO” to Fluorescence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

8) Scope the Diamond<\/h2>\n

\nNever buy a diamond you can’t microscope<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nPeriod!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nYou MUST <\/strong>look at the stone under 10x magnification<\/a>, to not only verify that the report is accurate<\/strong> (“That doesn’t look like a VS diamond<\/a>…”), but also to check that the stone isn’t chipped or damaged<\/strong> (something that can happen AFTER <\/strong>the diamond was graded).<\/p>\n

\nIT’S A MUST!<\/strong><\/p>\n

9) Shop and Compare Online<\/h2>\n

\nIf you check every jeweler in town, before you buy; CHECK ONLINE AS WELL!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nPlaces like James Allen<\/a> and Blue Nile<\/a> have the lowest prices around<\/strong>. Their prices will blow away the competition. Compare them with the mall stores and see for yourself. It will open your eyes!<\/strong> (Plus, James Allen<\/a> shows you the real diamonds under 10x magnification<\/strong> too!)<\/p>\n

10) Check the Return Policy<\/h2>\n

\nMake sure any store you buy from, not only has a return policy<\/strong> (some have none, others have 1 week, 1 month, 3 months…), but make sure that it’s a 100% full money back guarantee<\/strong>, no questions asked!<\/p>\n

\nMake sure they don’t penalize you with restocking fees<\/strong>, shipping fees, other handling fees, or even gives back store credit only!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nBecause if she says “NO<\/strong>“, you don’t want to be stuck with an $8,000 diamond<\/a>.<\/p>\n
