For some reason, people always believe that a certain clarity grade is given to a diamond, based upon the amount of inclusions<\/strong> (flaws) inside the stone.<\/p>\n

This is untrue!<\/h2>\n

\nYou could have an I clarity diamond (one of the lowest clarity ranges<\/strong> there is), with only 1 visible flaw.<\/p>\n

\nAnd, you could also have a VVS1 clarity diamond<\/a> (one of the best<\/strong> there is), with 5 flaws or more<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nClarity is not <\/em><\/strong>based upon the amount of imperfections, it’s more of how they visually appear<\/strong>, where they reside<\/strong>, and if they’re visible to the bare eye. That’s what determines the clarity grade of a diamond.<\/p>\n

\nTake a look at these diamonds below…<\/strong> They are all I1 clarity diamonds<\/a>, but they look more like VS stones…<\/p>\n

These diamonds are so impressive<\/h2>\n

\nFor most of them, they really only have one visible flaw<\/strong>… The rest of the stone is fairly clean<\/strong> (something normally only found in higher quality diamonds).<\/p>\n

\nBut they are still graded as I clarity<\/strong> because that one flaw is visible <\/strong>to the naked eye (no jeweler’s loupe<\/a> or microscope<\/a> needed). <\/p>\n

\nThat really is one of the biggest factors<\/strong> in determining low quality from high quality:<\/p>\n

Can you see the flaw?<\/h2>\n

\nIf you can see it<\/strong> without magnification, generally it’s an I clarity diamond<\/strong> (which could be I1, I2, or I3).<\/p>\n

\nIf you can’t see anything<\/strong>, and need a microscope to spot the flaws, then it’s a better clarity<\/strong>, like an SI1 clarity diamonds<\/a> or higher. As seen here…<\/p>\n

\n(SI2 diamonds<\/a> are in the middle<\/strong>, some you CAN <\/strong>see flaws in, others are harder to spot.)<\/p>\n

So it’s not the amount<\/strong>, but the visual aspect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

How it Appears to the Eye<\/h2>\n

\nIf the flaw is black <\/strong>(which makes it easier to spot), and located in the middle<\/strong> of the stone (where the crown facets can’t hide it), then it probably won’t get a high grade.<\/p>\n

It’s not desirable<\/h2>\n

\nWho wants to see flaws for the rest of their life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSo don’t worry about how many<\/strong> there are, be more concerned about where they are<\/strong>, and if you can see them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThis is why each diamond should be viewed independently<\/strong> (and magnified). Each diamond is unique in nature<\/strong> and will face up differently.<\/p>\n

\nOnly when you see the diamond<\/strong>, observe their flaws, can you truly make a better buying decision<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
