Clarity is the amount of flaws (plus where they reside), marks, lines, clouds inside (and on the surface) of a diamond. The more they have, <strong>the lower the grade<\/strong>. So in order of <strong>the best, to worst<\/strong>, here are the <strong>11 diamond clarity grades:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FL &#8211; Flawless<\/li>\n<li>IF &#8211; Internally Flawless<\/li>\n<li>VVS1 &#8211; Very Very Slightly Included 1<\/li>\n<li>VVS2 &#8211; Very Very Slightly Included 2<\/li>\n<li>VS1 &#8211; Very Slightly Included 1<\/li>\n<li>VS2 &#8211; Very Slightly Included 2<\/li>\n<li>SI1 &#8211; Slightly Included 1<\/li>\n<li>SI2 &#8211; Slightly Included 2<\/li>\n<li>I1 &#8211; Included 1<\/li>\n<li>I2 &#8211; Included 2<\/li>\n<li>I3 &#8211; Included 3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>As Seen in this Diamond Clarity Grading Chart:<\/h2>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Diamond-Clarity-Grading-Chart.jpg\" alt=\"Diamond Clarity Grading Chart\" title=\"Diamond Clarity Grading Chart\" width=\"640\" height=\"785\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Diamond-Clarity-Grading-Chart.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Diamond-Clarity-Grading-Chart-82x100.jpg 82w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Diamond-Clarity-Grading-Chart-245x300.jpg 245w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nJust about all of these diamonds shown above (and in reality every diamond&#8217;s flaws will look different), <strong>has flaws<\/strong>. Even a Flawless diamond <strong>could have flaws<\/strong> (like a nick or a natural on the girdle). So the odds of finding a diamond with <strong>zero imperfections<\/strong> is very, very rare and very expensive too. It&#8217;s almost unheard of.<\/p>\n<p>\nIf you put <strong>7 of these clarities<\/strong> side by side (all of them except for the bottom 4), they will <strong>all look identical<\/strong> to the bare eye (that&#8217;s without a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2kwTzmN\">microscope<\/a> or a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2kwSI5G\">10x jeweler&#8217;s loupe<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><h2>IDENTICAL!<\/h2>\n<p>\nSo if you <strong>can&#8217;t see a visible difference<\/strong> (and how many times in your life are you going to microscope it?), then <strong>why spend the money<\/strong> for a higher clarity?<\/p>\n<p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/loose-diamonds\/round-cut\/?CaratFrom=0.75&#038;CaratTo=30.00&#038;Color=G,F,E,D&#038;Clarity=SI1,VS2,VS1,VVS2,VVS1,IF,FL&#038;Cut=TrueHearts&#038;PriceFrom=&#038;PriceTo=&#038;Sort=Price,%20DefaultOrder&#038;ViewsOptions=Images&#038;advancedParameter=CaratSliderBottom&#038;showAdvanced=show&#038;Shape=round&#038;Polish=EX,ID&#038;Symmetry=EX,ID&#038;Lab=GIA&#038;Flour=None,Negligible&#038;DepthFrom=45&#038;DepthTo=80.0&#038;TableFrom=40&#038;TableTo=83?a_aid=JSDG\">Buy an SI1 clarity<\/a>, and put your money into something you can see (<strong>like a better color or cut<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><h2>2) Clarity is NOT Obvious!<\/h2>\n<p>\nLike I said, <strong>almost all clarities will look the same<\/strong> side by side. Only under a microscope can you see minute differences between them. And only when you view SI2 diamonds (which have <strong>visible flaws from the side<\/strong>), and I clarity diamonds (I1, I2, I3) <strong>will you begin to see flaws<\/strong>. Granted, some of the flaws in I2 and I3 diamonds will be <strong>pretty big<\/strong> and <strong>pretty obvious<\/strong>, but even then, most people still won&#8217;t notice them until <strong>you point them out<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nDo note that <strong>flaws get more apparent<\/strong> in larger carat weights, too (like <strong>1.00 carat and bigger<\/strong>). Smaller stones are harder to spot.<\/p>\n<p>\nSo unless you buy the worst 2 clarities (I2 and I3), chances are, the flaws won&#8217;t stand out or be noticed much. And if you buy SI1 or higher, <strong>you won&#8217;t see them at all<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><h2>3) Flaws Add Character!<\/h2>\n<p>\nIt&#8217;s true. Some people <strong>LOVE the fact <\/strong>that their diamond has a visible black speck. You&#8217;d be amazed at how some people don&#8217;t care, and even <strong>brag about<\/strong> the fact that &#8220;My diamond is my Grandmother&#8217;s, and it has <strong>a visible flaw on the side<\/strong>&#8220;. It&#8217;s like a <strong>beauty mark<\/strong>, a <strong>mole<\/strong>, a <strong>battle wound<\/strong>&#8230; Everything born in nature in unique and has its own traits, personality and character.<\/p>\n<p><h2>Some Flaws are Awesome too!<\/h2>\n<p>\nSome flaws look like objects, <strong>animals<\/strong>, lines, pepper&#8230; Some flaws are <strong>triangles <\/strong>(trigons), and some are even <strong>other minerals and rocks<\/strong> like quartz and garnet imbedded into the stone. They&#8217;re all <strong>cool and different<\/strong> in their own way. It&#8217;s what makes a diamond <strong>one-of-a-kind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><h2>4) Identification is EASY!<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>This is a huge, huge bonus<\/strong>. If your diamond has a couple of small lines, dots, pin-points, clouds&#8230; <strong>It makes identifying your stone easy<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\nThis pattern, diagram or map of your flaws, has been in the diamond for <strong>a billion years<\/strong>. These flaws will never alter, shift, grow or shrink, <strong>they&#8217;re in there forever<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nWhich means, at anytime in your lifetime, you could <strong>view your diamond<\/strong> and see those exact same flaws.
