True Hearts?<\/h2>\n

\nPeople often get confused with all the different diamond terminology<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nEspecially when it comes to “cut<\/strong>“. People mistake the cut of a diamond with the “shape<\/strong>” pretty easily. After all, isn’t it called “Brilliant cut<\/strong>“, “Princess cut<\/strong>“, “Oval cut<\/strong>“… Right?<\/p>\n

\nBut the shape of the stone has little to do with the actual “cut grade<\/strong>” of the diamond…<\/p>\n

Cut is more than that<\/h2>\n

\nCut is the way the diamond is angled, faceted, and proportioned<\/strong> to reflect light and return light back to the viewer.<\/p>\n

\nThe better the cut is (depth, width, crown height, pavilion angle, girdle thickness…), the better the results of brilliance and fire<\/strong> (flashes of white light and colored light).<\/p>\n

\nWhich is why Marcel Tolkowsky<\/strong> (back in the early 1900’s), developed the standards for the “ideal” cut diamond<\/strong>. Called the “American ideal cut<\/strong>“, it tried to present a mathematical formation as to the best potential and possibilities of light distribution (scintillation<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nBut this ideal range varied greatly<\/strong>. It gave a loose mixture of percentages<\/strong> that could result in many different looking diamonds (60\/60 diamonds<\/strong> were all over the board…)<\/p>\n

Ideal cut diamonds were fine for the time…<\/h2>\n

\nBut, there is more that goes into a great cut<\/strong>, than just cut grade proportions<\/strong> (shown in the diamond profile<\/strong> below)…<\/p>\n

\nEven though there are 5 cut grades:<\/strong> Excellent (being the best), Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor, you still have to look at the visual aspect<\/strong> (how it faces up<\/strong> and appears to the eye), and include both symmetry <\/strong>and polish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nAll these things combined together gives you a bigger picture<\/strong> of the best cut diamonds in the world.<\/p>\n

\nWhen you get “Excellent<\/strong>” grades in cut, as well as symmetry and polish<\/strong>, then you get into diamonds called “super ideal cuts<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

Super Ideal Cuts are Spectacular<\/h2>\n

\nTruly. Nothing else compares<\/strong>. It’s taking cut to a whole new dimension. <\/p>\n

\nSuper ideals are where you see those perfectly shaped “hearts and arrows” patterns<\/strong> that you always hear about. Hearts shown from the bottom view (viewed under a special hearts and arrows gem scope<\/a>), and arrows from the top view. As shown below…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Those diamonds are the cream of the crop<\/strong>. The best you can buy. And super ideals go by many different names<\/strong> too (trademarked by different jewelers).<\/p>\n
