\nI’ve gone to James Allen<\/a> to compare two very different diamonds<\/strong>: both 1 carats, cushion cuts, but one is a fancy purple<\/strong> diamond, and the other, a classic white<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nLet the match begin:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Purple Diamond…<\/h2>\n

\nFeatured is an exquisite purple diamond that is a true fancy colored diamond<\/strong>. Meaning Mother Nature<\/strong> created the color, not man. It’s not been heat treated or color enhanced in the least (like the colored diamonds you find in mall jewelry stores<\/a>). It’s natural<\/strong>, real, and that’s what makes it so rare, unique, and expensive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThe purple hue in fancy diamonds (also called fancies<\/strong>) is caused by a combo of 2 things: crystal lattice distortion<\/strong> and a high content of hydrogen<\/strong>. Those 2 things (along with the heat and pressure of the earth) give diamonds that rare purple body tone, one of the rarest colors in the world.<\/p>\n

\nAnd when you’re grading fancy<\/strong> colored diamonds:<\/p>\n

It’s all about the COLOR!<\/h2>\n

\nClarity plays a very small role<\/strong> in the grading and pricing <\/strong>of fancies… It’s more about COLOR! <\/strong>Almost exclusively. And this particular diamond I choose… is a purple delight<\/strong> (purple\/pink to be exact).<\/p>\n

\nA 1.01 carat, cushion cut diamond<\/a>, SI1 clarity, with even color distribution<\/strong> (the color looks the same throughout), excellent polish, very good symmetry<\/strong>, and a medium blue fluorescence. <\/p>\n

\nIt’s a one carat, pure white<\/strong>, and one of the lowest priced diamonds at the time of this post<\/strong> (there was actually one cheaper, but it sold within hours<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nSame weight, better clarity; VVS1 <\/strong>(one of the best clarities you can buy – right underneath Flawless<\/strong>). And the color… F<\/strong>. Colorless. Pure-white (no color in the diamond whatsoever). So we go from one extreme to the other.<\/p>\n

And that Price… Another WOW! Just $4,740<\/h2>\n

\nSame weight, different color, go figure<\/strong>. Would you ever imagine there would be such a huge price difference?<\/strong><\/p>\n
