\n(And no, that’s not a Christina Aguilera Song<\/a>…)<\/p>\n

\nIt’s your stretch watch band<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nStretch bands and highly popular<\/strong>. Just about all the inexpensive watches (like Timex) have either stretchy bands<\/strong> or faux leather straps<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nAnd chances are, that band is dirty-dirty<\/strong>, and you don’t even know it!<\/p>\n

\nStretch watch bands<\/a> (where the band stretches so you can slide it over your wrist easily<\/strong>), have 1000 little, bits and moving pieces, parts that pull apart, open up, close… They trap dirt like a garbage disposal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It’s Gross!<\/h2>\n

\nHave you ever looked?<\/strong> Have you ever stretched out your links and looked inside your band?<\/strong> It ain’t pretty. More than likely it’ll be black<\/strong>, caked with dark icky mud, muck<\/strong>, and full of 20 years worth of who-knows-what<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n\"How<\/p>\n

Jewelers see it all the time…<\/h2>\n

\nPeople bring in their wrist watches to get a link repaired<\/strong>, removed<\/strong>, inserted<\/strong>… (with those half-bent U shaped fasteners)… And we pull them apart to work on them:<\/p>\n

SURPRISE! (It Stinks, too!)<\/h2>\n

\nYikes!<\/strong> It’s hard to even touch. You certainly have to wash your hands<\/strong> afterwards…<\/p>\n

\nAnd you’ll probably notice the dirt more in the Summertime<\/strong>. When your arm is all hot, moist and sweaty<\/strong>… That dirt and gunk will then leave black residue<\/strong>, stain marks on your wrist.<\/p>\n

No kidding!<\/h2>\n

\nPlus, all that debris will actually shorten the lifespan of your links<\/strong>. It’ll eat them alive. Corrode them<\/strong>. Make them brittle and break<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

So here’s how to clean them:<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s simple <\/strong>and it just takes a few minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nFirst, remove the band from the watch<\/strong> itself. You don’t want to get your movement wet<\/strong> or it’ll ruin that.<\/p>\n

\nUse a watch spring bar tool<\/a> to pull those spring bars back from the watch arms and free your band<\/strong>… (if these spring bars break or bend, go see a jeweler<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\n\"Remove<\/a><\/p>\n

\nOnce the band is free, put it into a jewelry ultrasonic cleaner<\/a> with hot water (like coffee hot<\/strong>), and a dash of Mr. Clean<\/strong>. Then leave it vibrate in the cleaner for a good 20 minutes<\/strong> or so. It’ll do wonders to your band (not to mention turn the water a messy black sludge).<\/p>\n

But hey, at least you know it’s working.<\/h2>\n

\nClean it, pull it apart, look inside the links<\/strong>. If it’s clean, put it back on your watch and enjoy. If not, back in the sonic brew it goes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nKeep doing this until all the residue is removed<\/strong>. Eventually it’ll be clean as a whistle (and no more black goo<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nAnd that my friends, is how you keep your stretch wrist band clean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
