\nYES!<\/strong> (According to Fred Cuellar<\/strong>, the Diamond Guru who wrote “How to Buy a Diamond<\/a>“, a huge number of stones are not living up to their full potential<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nOnly 25%<\/strong> of diamonds are cut well. WOW!<\/strong> <\/p>\n

And the Funniest thing…<\/h2>\n

\nCut is the #1 factor<\/strong> that man can <\/em>control. We are the ones that cut them<\/strong>. And we can cut them anyway we like (in any shape or size). And so how do we cut them:<\/strong><\/p>\n

POORLY<\/h2>\n

\nThat’s sad.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nRead a passage Fred Cuellar<\/strong> wrote in his book:<\/p>\n

\n\"How<\/a><\/p>\n

\nMan can’t control color<\/strong>, or diamond clarity<\/strong> (that’s Mother Nature’s job). But by the way we cut them, we can determine their ability to exhibit as much light and fire<\/strong> as possible (which also determines carat weight<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nSo it’s all up to us.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What does a “Poorly Cut Diamond” mean?<\/h2>\n

\nIt means, it’s not optimal<\/strong>. It’s not “perfect<\/strong>” like it should be… as in “excellent<\/strong>” cut. Triple excellent<\/strong> to be exact. Where the cut, polish, and symmetry all have “excellent” grades<\/strong> (those lovely hearts and arrows).<\/p>\n

If it’s less then that, it’s POOR (Bad Make).<\/h2>\n

\nLook at these diamonds to see what I mean:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nYou can see a visual difference between them<\/strong> (which also greatly affects price<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Why do we Cut them like this?<\/h2>\n

\nPROFIT PROFIT PROFIT<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThat’s it. That’s the only reason<\/strong>. If the diamond cutters can stand to make $5,000<\/strong> from a rough parent rock, carving out “poorly cut<\/strong>” diamonds, versus only making $1,000<\/strong> profit on one “excellent” cut<\/strong> diamond, what do you think they’ll choose?<\/p>\n

The Whole World Revolves around Money.<\/h2>\n

\nNow most people may not notice<\/strong> these less-then-ideal diamond facets and proportions. And most people are not going to put them side by side<\/strong> with better quality stones to see… But once you do see them (like above), you will want them:<\/strong> The excellent diamonds.<\/a><\/p>\n

Not Very Pretty are they?<\/h2>\n

\nA triple excellent, hearts and arrows diamond (called “True Hearts” at James Allen<\/a>), is the best of the best<\/strong>… Like this diamond here:<\/a><\/p>\n

\nAnd yes, you do pay for that cut (just like anything top-of-the-line<\/strong>). But cut makes the entire diamond look better. It gives it tons more white light<\/strong> (brilliance), and colored light<\/strong> (fire). It also makes the stone appear bigger and brighter<\/strong>. It’s a win-win. It’s cut.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nCut is something man can <\/em>control, and something you can control<\/strong> when selecting a diamond for an engagement ring.<\/p>\n

Look for “Triple Excellent” on a GIA Diamond Report:<\/h2>\n

And look for that “True Hearts Symbol…<\/h2>\n

\n\"How<\/a><\/p>\n

\nThat way you’ll know that your diamond is not poorly cut<\/strong>. You’ll know that it will outshine 75% of all the diamonds on the market<\/strong>, and that’s incredible.<\/p>\n

\nAnd do also note that this mostly implies to “round brilliant cut<\/a>” diamonds, since rounds are the only diamonds with an actual cut grade<\/strong>. James Allen though, takes it one step further and gives deserving “excellent cut<\/strong>” princess cut diamonds a True Hearts grade<\/strong> as well.
