You have to actually Weight the Stone on a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B0032FQS8I\/?tag=jewelry-secrets-20\">Diamond Scale<\/a> to know for sure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gemstones are not Perfect<\/strong>. Some are Deep (pretty much ALL Gemstones are Cut Deeper than a Diamond). Some have Thick Girdles, Tall Crowns&#8230; Some Stones are Thin and Narrow. They all vary. And without the Actual Depth of the Stone to Factor into the Equation, judging Carat Weight by just the Width is <strong>just a Guesstimation!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nYou can get close, and this is how they do it when they&#8217;re <strong>Appraising your Jewelry<\/strong> with the Stones still in the Mounting, they Guesstimate according to Standard MM Sizes and what they should be.<\/p>\n<p><h2>MM And Carat Weights<\/h2>\n<p>\nTake a look at the Diamond MM Size Chart Below. You look on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/gia-the-best-diamond-certificate-ever\/\">GIA Diamond Report<\/a> and you see that the Measurements are <strong>6.1 x 6.2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Note:<\/strong> GIA will usually Measure Round Brilliant Cut Diamonds in <strong>2 Spots<\/strong>, because most Round Stones are <strong>NOT Perfectly Round!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nNow look at the Charts, you see that a 1 Carat Round Diamond <strong>should be 6.5mm<\/strong>. The Diamond at the store is listed as 6.1 x 6.2mm.<\/p>\n<p><h2>What Does this Tell You?<\/h2>\n<p>\nIt tells you that your Stone is not as Wide as it should be, which means, <strong>it&#8217;s Deeper than Normal<\/strong>. The Carat Weight is Distributed more up and down in the Depth of the Stone, than across the Width.<\/p>\n<p>\nThat Stone will not only appear Slightly Smaller than a normal 1 Carat Diamond, but it <strong>Probably won&#8217;t Shine as much as one either<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nStandard Sizes can help you <strong>Choose a Better Quality Stone<\/strong> that will have <strong>more Brilliance, Sparkle and Fire!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>Why Measure Stones?<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>Jewelers Measure Stones all day long<\/strong>. They have to Determine what Stones will Fit into what Mounting. And for Earrings, they&#8217;ll have to make sure Both Stones have the same MM Width (Carat Weights may Fluctuate slightly). Properly Measured Stones will <strong>make your Earrings Match<\/strong> (You don&#8217;t want a Lopsided Head)! <strong>BONUS!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nThey also Measure Mountings that have Missing Stones to Determine what size fits in the Hole.<\/p>\n<p>\nThey use <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B000RB1M04\/?tag=jewelry-secrets-20\">MM Gauges<\/a> to tell what Size Head to Order for a Stone.
