As in &#8220;<strong>not hard<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe chain is not solid through-and-through. <strong>It&#8217;s hollowed out inside<\/strong>, meaning it&#8217;s lightweight, could, and probably would, <strong>CRUSH!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nSo doing a search for &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2NjiwBw\">14k solid gold chain<\/a>&#8221; actually brings up chains that <strong>are not solid, nor even real gold<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nIt&#8217;s because of the way that <strong>Amazon&#8217;s search algorithm<\/strong> works. They look at each and every individual keyword; &#8220;<strong>14k<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>solid<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>gold<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>chain<\/strong>&#8220;. So anything with any of those words in it will show up; &#8220;<strong>semi-solid<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>gold plated<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>gold filled<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>14k plated<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>gold tone<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>14k over sterling silver<\/strong>&#8220;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2NjiwBw\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Semi-Solid-Plated-Hollow-Gold-Chains-1.jpg\" alt=\"Semi-Solid Plated Hollow Gold Chains\" title=\"Semi-Solid Plated Hollow Gold Chains\" width=\"640\" height=\"3000\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Semi-Solid-Plated-Hollow-Gold-Chains-1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Semi-Solid-Plated-Hollow-Gold-Chains-1-64x300.jpg 64w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAll these terms and keyword phrases <strong>indicate chains that are fake<\/strong>. They are <strong>cheap <\/strong>and will not last. The plating will wear off, the chain will tarnish, it will turn your neck colors, turn the chain colors, and <strong>more than likely break<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nThey&#8217;re made to look like a real chain, <strong>but aren&#8217;t<\/strong>. It&#8217;s the same with <strong>10k gold<\/strong>, or <strong>18k gold<\/strong>, you have to be careful when purchasing one, for the exact words used could be <strong>misinterpreted or deceiving<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;<strong>Semi-solid<\/strong>&#8221; is just another word to show up for when searching &#8220;<strong>solid<\/strong>&#8220;. <\/p>\n<p><h2>Tricky?<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>You bet<\/strong>. But no different then searching for &#8220;<strong>diamond<\/strong>&#8221; and getting &#8220;<strong>diamond replica<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>diamond look-alike<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>diamond cut<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>diamond cz<\/strong>&#8220;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><h2>You have to read everything!<\/h2>\n<p>\nI would certainly advise staying away from any chains that aren&#8217;t real. Sure it will look like the same thing for a while, <strong>but they won&#8217;t last<\/strong>. They&#8217;ll fracture, <strong>smush<\/strong>, dent, turn <strong>black or green<\/strong>&#8230; The gold will wear off and look <strong>white <\/strong>underneath. It could break your neck out <strong>in a rash<\/strong>&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/the-cure-for-gold-nickel-allergies\/\">Nickel allergies<\/a>&#8230; <strong>It&#8217;s literally a waste of money<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>\nIf you want a genuine solid gold chain, <strong>read the title and description well<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><h2>If they use any of these words:<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong><\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Plated<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">Gold Tone<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Semi-Solid<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">Gold Overlay<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Plating<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">Gold Filled<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Metal<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">Gold Plate<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Sterling Silver<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">Alloy<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Hollow<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">Inlaid<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Brass<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">Copper<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">Faux<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">.925<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>Chances are they aren&#8217;t real!<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>And another surefire way to tell:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>The PRICE!<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>Real gold is NOT CHEAP! <\/strong>So if a fat chain is selling for <strong>$25.95<\/strong>, it&#8217;s <strong>NOT REAL!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nGranted, this all depends on the actual <strong>thickness and gram weight<\/strong> of the chain, but most real chains usually start around <strong>$100<\/strong> and escalate quickly. So it&#8217;s worth every penny!<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>One more thing to keep in mind:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>Lobsters are better than Spring Rings<\/h2>\n<p>\nLobster claw clasps are <strong>bigger, longer and way more durable<\/strong> than Spring Ring clasps (which can pull apart and lose your chain or pendant). <strong>Stay away from those<\/strong>. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2NeRURU\">Get the lobster claws instead<\/a>.
