Because every single diamond is different (no two are ever exact), and there are tons of diamond experts, opinions, aspects, and characteristics to consider.

Things like: the 4 C’s, cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. Along with specific measurements, percentages, polish, symmetry, fluorescence, culet size, girdle thickness, and even blemishes that show up on a flawless diamond (like a natural or a trigon).

So how does one rate any diamond truly perfect?

It’s mind-boggling to think about. Especially since diamonds are only graded under 10x magnification. Which means, if you viewed that same exact “perfect” diamond under stronger magnification, like 20x, or 30x, then guess what happens?

FLAWS APPEAR!

So is it perfect then?

It is… If you have the cream of the crop, top of the line, diamond.

The FTC states here: comments on jewelry guides, that for a diamond to be truly “perfect“, and to be called and sold as a “perfect” diamond (without misleading or frauding the public), then the diamond in question must have these exact attributes:

Flawless Clarity

D Color

Perfect Make

Read the actual description here:

So what does this all mean?

Simple, let me explain…

The perfect diamond clarity:

Flawless clarity is the best GIA clarity grade a diamond can get… And I’m talking about flawless (FL), not internally flawless (IF)… There’s a difference.

Flawless is the cleanest and clearest Clarity of Diamond on the face of the earth.

And beyond clarity, comes color…

The perfect diamond color:

For a diamond to be called “perfect“, it must have D diamond color.

D color is the best, highest possible color you can get in any diamond.

D is pure white. Void of any color whatsoever. It really is the best that money can buy.

Lastly…

The perfect diamond make:

The “make” of a diamond means proportions, angles, percentages, polish, symmetry… All things related to cut.

A perfect make means this: perfect in cut, polish, and symmetry (by GIA standards).

The best in all these categories is a rating of “excellent“. So that would actually be triple excellent.

AGS perfection:

GIA is the biggest and best certification company in the World (they wrote the book on diamond grading)… But AGS is second best.

AGS has a little bit different grading system, that many say, goes more in depth with detail. AGS will give their best grades 0’s (which means ideal). So they would give a 0 (zero) in cut, polish, and symmetry (0, 0, 0).

A stone obtaining 0, 0, 0, would be considered perfect as well (if it also had 0 in clarity, and 0 in color). Perfect proportions will affect the look and feel of a diamond more than any other aspect. It will make you diamond have tons of flashes of brilliance, sparkle and fire. It brings a diamond to life.

These types of cuts are signature cuts that will have those beautiful “hearts and arrows” pattern that everyone knows and loves.

They are the diamonds to buy.

Perfect carat weight:

You may have noticed that carat weight bears no importance upon the perfect diamond.

So a perfect diamond can be any carat weight you desire.

But I will tell you this…

The “dream” carat weight is 1.00 carat.

And you know what?

That sounds perfect to me.

Just like these diamonds here!

Cheers! :)

I’ve talked about diamond perfection before… Does it exist?
