Why $3,000?<\/h2>\n

\nBecause 3 grand is the average engagement ring sale price<\/strong>, so that’s the number we’re focusing on.<\/p>\n

\nWhen you talk about solitaire rings, there are 2 main styles of rings<\/strong> to choose from:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

  1. Single diamond on a plain band<\/li>\n
  2. Single diamond on a multi-diamond band<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/strong><\/p>\n

    \nThe first one is the classic<\/strong>. A $3,000 diamond on a simple, plain band<\/a> (Often called the “Tiffany Style<\/strong>“, selling for around $175-$300<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

    \nThe second type of engagement ring is where a diamond is set onto a much more elaborate ring<\/strong>, something with a wider band<\/strong>, ornate sides<\/strong>, diamonds down the side<\/strong>; pave set<\/a>, halo set<\/a>, channel set<\/a>, and so on, like these:<\/p>\n

    \n\"Diamond<\/a><\/p>\n

    \nThese styles are varied and vast<\/strong>, and the carat weight gets distributed over the entire ring; .50 tdw<\/strong> (half carat total <\/strong>diamond weight)… Versus the classic plain band could have one diamond that equals .50 ct alone.<\/p>\n

    \nWhen you buy one diamond, all the money goes into that one stone<\/strong>. And as the carat weight grows, so does the price<\/strong>. So for a $3,000 budget<\/strong>, you could buy diamonds of SI1, G, Ideal cut<\/a>, like these stones here…<\/p>\n

    \n\"SI1<\/a><\/p>\n

    \nNow you could go lower in color and clarity<\/strong> (which is perfectly fine as long as you scope the diamond under magnification before you buy it; and are happy<\/strong> with what you see)… to get yourself into larger diamonds<\/strong> like these… .90-1.00 ct, I1+ clarity diamonds<\/a>… <\/p>\n

    \nBut for the small size increase<\/strong>, I would probably stick with the .80 ct diamonds, SI1, G<\/a> (that way you don’t see any visible inclusions<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

    \nWith the second style of rings, the solitaires with side stones<\/strong>, you can set the stones into a mounting that makes the diamond look bigger<\/strong>. That way the majority of money goes into the center stone, the other to the mounting<\/strong>. Like these $3,000 engagement ring styles here<\/a>…<\/p>\n

    \n\"Three<\/a><\/p>\n

    \nThese are pretty impressive rings<\/strong> and will give you more bang for the buck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    My Recommendation is this:<\/h2>\n

    \nBuy a loose diamond<\/strong> from James Allen<\/a> (you can’t find them cheaper<\/strong>; compare them with mall stores<\/strong> and you’ll see a huge price difference), then have it set in the mounting of your choice:<\/p>\n

    \n\"Choose<\/a><\/p>\n

    \nYou could definitely spend more money<\/strong>, for sure. You could get yourself into a better diamond<\/strong> (like these True Hearts for $8,000+<\/a>)…<\/p>\n

    \nBut it’s really not necessary<\/strong> (unless she’s demanded <\/strong>she wants a one carat diamond ring<\/strong>. Then your only option would be to buy a lower quality 1 carat<\/strong> (like these stones here<\/a>), or buy a ring with multiple stones that total 1 carat<\/strong> together (that’s the best bet<\/strong>).<\/p>\n
