Let’s do a “Buy This, Don’t Buy That<\/strong>“…<\/p>\n

With diamonds!<\/h2>\n

\nBecause when it comes to diamonds, quality and price, it’s all over the board<\/strong> with what you can get. <\/p>\n

\nWith a little comparison, you’ll see that your dollar can buy you so much more<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I’ll use a diamond from Jareds as an example.<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s a simple 14k white gold half carat solitaire diamond ring<\/a>, shown here:<\/p>\n

\n\"Solitaire<\/a><\/p>\n

\nThis particular diamond is sold as a 50 pointer<\/strong>… But the actual carat weight may vary between .45-.57<\/strong> (so your diamond could be 10% smaller<\/strong> than you imagined).<\/p>\n

The diamond color is I<\/h2>\n

\nI color is in the lower portion of the “Near Colorless<\/strong>” color range. It’s common, looks fine, faces up white<\/strong> (unless you view it from the side). Most diamonds on the market are right around this color range. Nothing really wrong here (until you compare what a better color<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

The clarity is I2<\/h2>\n

\nI2 is not great… <\/strong>It’s not even good. It’s a poor clarity<\/strong>, almost the lowest clarity grade on Earth (only I3 is lower<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\nI2 clarity diamonds WILL have eye-visible inclusions<\/strong> in them. Meaning, when you just look at the diamond YOU WILL SEE FLAWS!<\/strong> Flaws like black carbon spots, clouds, chips, fractures, lines, feathers, all sorts of imperfections…<\/p>\n

VISIBLE ONES!<\/h2>\n

\nThat’s the nature of I2. Some of these flaws could be pretty big<\/strong> and pretty obvious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

But that’s not the worst of it…<\/h2>\n

\nThis is:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut is NOT listed!<\/h2>\n

\nJareds only lists the cut of their diamond, as the shape: ROUND<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n“Round<\/strong>” is NOT <\/strong>a cut grade. “Round” is not telling you anything about how the diamond is proportioned <\/strong>or faceted<\/strong>. You’ll have no idea if the stone is cut good, fair, poor<\/strong>… How it handles light. If it even sparkles at all…<\/p>\n

\nBy glossing over the true cut of their stones, you could end up with a dark diamond<\/strong>, one that’s dull, deep, and lifeless<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThe only way to know for sure, is to see the stone with your own eyes. And then, once you see it, compare it side by side<\/strong> with a diamond that does have a cut grade and see how it rates with beauty and sparkle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nWhich reminds me…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Their stone isn’t certified!<\/h2>\n

\nNot only does it not come with a diamond report, but you also have no idea what the polish grade<\/strong> is, what the symmetry grade<\/strong> is, and you have no idea if the stone has any fluorescence<\/strong> or strong fluorescence<\/strong>. They give you very little info to go on…<\/p>\n

Now, let’s compare:<\/h2>\n

\nI went to James Allen<\/strong> (the lowest price diamond dealer online), and pulled up a half carat diamond with a similar price range.<\/p>\n

\nKeep in mind that James Allen sells all their diamonds loose<\/strong> (so you can see them magnified <\/strong>and rotate the stones to see everything inside), and then once you select a diamond, you can have it set in the mounting of your choice: Solitaire, Pave, Halo, 3-Stone, Channel Set<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

That’s the proper way to buy a diamond!<\/h2>\n

\nThis is what I found…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA half carat diamond<\/a> (actually 53 points<\/strong>, slightly bigger than a half carat), with SI1 clarity<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nSI1 is an eye-clean<\/strong> clarity; You won’t see any flaws with the bare eye. They’re so small, they’re microscopic only<\/strong> (you have to use a microscope<\/a> or a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a> to see them).<\/p>\n

\nSI1 is a much, much higher clarity<\/strong> than I2 (3 grades higher<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

The color is outstanding<\/h2>\n

\nThe color of James Allen’s diamond is E. E is a pure-white diamond<\/strong>, just about the best you could ever buy. The only color higher is D<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nAn E colored diamond has no color whatsoever<\/strong> in the stone. It’s ultra-bright<\/strong> and ultra-white<\/strong>. It will look like there’s a spotlight on the stone, that’s how bright they are. E color is my favorite diamond color<\/strong>. I simply adore them.<\/p>\n

The cut is excellent!<\/h2>\n

\nIn fact, this diamond is “triple excellent<\/strong>“. Triple excellent is the best, and highest grades GIA will grade<\/strong> for cut, polish and symmetry. These 3 “excellent” grades<\/strong> will have this half carat diamond sparkling like crazy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n\"Half<\/a><\/p>\n

And YES, it is certified! (Shown above)<\/h2>\n

\nIt comes with a GIA diamond report<\/strong> (and it has zero fluorescence<\/strong>)…<\/p>\n

What more could you ask for?<\/h2>\n

\nYou can view the real diamond you’re buying<\/a>. See all the tiny imperfections inside the stone. Spin it around, see it dance and sparkle… It’s wonderful!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nYou can’t do that with Jared’s diamond. Their ring is a “stock photo<\/strong>“. Meaning, that’s not the real ring or diamond you’d be buying. <\/p>\n

\nAnd once you put James Allen’s diamond into a 14k white gold solitaire mounting<\/a> ($240 more<\/strong>), the total comes to $1580<\/strong> (versus $1299.99<\/strong> at Jareds)…<\/p>\n

\n\"Half<\/a><\/p>\n

\nSo you do spend $280 more<\/strong> than Jared’s ring… But what you get is ten-thousand miles apart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So buy THIS diamond, not THAT…<\/h2>\n
