DON’T BUY IT!<\/h2>\n

\nThat is, if you’re serious about buying<\/strong> a decent quality of diamond, or want to find the best diamond<\/strong> for the best price<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nThe only way to buy a single diamond engagement ring:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is to buy it LOOSE!<\/h2>\n

\nBuy the diamond, and then buy the mounting…<\/p>\n

\nBecause there are a billion diamond solitaires in the jewelry stores across the country… All preset into thin, Tiffany-style mountings<\/strong>. It’s the go-to ring<\/strong> when you want to get engaged (sometimes a.s.a.p.<\/strong>) and have no idea what style she’d like.<\/p>\n

The classic is a classic!<\/h2>\n

\nA preset ring makes things quick and easy<\/strong>. Painless. No worries<\/strong>. Pick one you like and you’re done… Many people shop this way. After all, the ring is already made, finished<\/strong>, you can see the final product, try it on<\/strong>… <\/p>\n

It makes shopping fast and simple.<\/h2>\n

\nBut chances are, that diamond is not certified<\/strong>, has no cut <\/strong>info, nothing about polish<\/strong>, nor symmetry<\/strong>, and certainly nothing about fluorescence<\/strong>. You won’t even know the condition <\/strong>either.<\/p>\n

\n\"Pre-Set<\/p>\n

\nDiamonds sold like this often have little specifications<\/strong> listed. You may see what the color and clarity<\/strong> is (and usually that’s graded in-house, and might be grade bumped<\/strong>), but really, what’s the cut?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The cut is the most important 4C!<\/h2>\n

\nThe cut is what makes a diamond sparkle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nAnd you can tell right off the bat if a store has no clue about cut<\/strong>, because they’ll respond by saying “The cut is round<\/strong>“, or “brilliant cut<\/strong>“, or “princess cut<\/strong>“…<\/p>\n

\nThose are shapes, cutting styles, NOT AN ACTUAL CUT GRADE!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nCut grades are “Excellent<\/strong>“, “Very Good<\/strong>“, “Good<\/strong>“, “Fair<\/strong>“, “Poor<\/strong>“…<\/p>\n

\n\"Diamond<\/p>\n

\nLooking at this diamond info doesn’t tell you anything about the way the diamond is proportioned<\/strong>. You’d have no idea if it’s deep, lumpy, shallow… It’s buying blind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A mounted diamond hides many things:<\/h2>\n

\nA prong could be covering up a huge flaw<\/strong>, a chip, a crack<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nMounted diamonds also mask color<\/strong>. It makes it harder to judge. It could be a yellow stone<\/strong>. The mounting can also darken diamonds and make them look dull<\/strong>, lifeless<\/strong>, and even smaller<\/strong> in size.<\/p>\n

\nThis is why I always say: <\/p>\n

Buy it LOOSE first!<\/h2>\n

\nThat way you can magnify the diamond. View it from all sides and angles<\/strong>. See the inclusions<\/strong>, compare them to the diamond plot<\/strong> on a diamond report<\/strong> (I recommend GIA<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Doing so is crucial!<\/h2>\n

\nWhen you buy a loose diamond (buy from James Allen<\/a>), you can see the actual diamond<\/strong> you’re buying. Magnified (20x), and spin the diamond around. It’s beautiful<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nWith most stores, you can’t do this (some jewelry stores don’t even carry a microscope<\/strong>). And most stores online don’t show you the real image of the real diamond… They show you only a sample photo <\/strong>(like the solitaires shown above). Those are not the real stones you’d be getting… If you saw the real stones, you probably wouldn’t want them!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAnd then, and only then, have it set into the mounting of your choice<\/strong> (solitaire mounting<\/a>, pave mounting<\/a>, halo mountings<\/a>). This is the only way to know exactly what you’re buying, and what the true quality is.<\/p>\n

Plus, you’ll save money at the same time!<\/h2>\n
