Cheap?<\/h2>\n

\nI’m going to show you 3 diamonds<\/strong>. Just by looking at them, can you decide which is the cheapest?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSounds easy enough, but all of the diamonds are different in quality; color, cut, clarity<\/strong>, the only thing that’s the same is the carat weight<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

They are all 1.00 carat exactly.<\/h2>\n

\nPlus, they are all certified by GIA<\/strong> as well.<\/p>\n

\nSo bring on the diamonds…<\/p>\n

Which diamond is CHEAPER?<\/h2>\n

\n(Keep in mind this is not looking for the best stone<\/strong>, it’s the diamond that you think will sell the cheapest!<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

A. B. or C?<\/h2>\n

\n\"Which<\/p>\n

\nGot your answer?<\/strong> Good…<\/p>\n

\nAt first glance, it seems rather obvious<\/strong>. Diamond A. or C<\/strong>, right? A. looks dark and blurry<\/strong>, and C. looks black and yellow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBut if you’re thinking “That Richard is fooling me…<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nYou’d be right. For diamond B. is the cheapest!<\/strong><\/p>\n

How is this possible?<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s because all diamonds appear different<\/strong>, regardless of their quality. Sort of like people, we all have a face, nose, ears, eyes… But subtle shifts make one face look much better than another<\/strong>. Feel me?<\/p>\n

\nI do this diamond test for good reasons… If diamond B. were on someone’s finger, you’d think it was a really expensive diamond<\/strong>. But, believe it or not, the difference between these diamonds is almost TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS<\/strong>. Now that’s mind-boggling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What a difference.<\/h2>\n

\nA. is actually a top-notch diamond<\/strong>. IF clarity (internally flawless<\/strong>), with D color<\/strong> (the best there is). It also has an excellent cut<\/strong>… It’s cream of the crop. On paper<\/strong>. The polish and symmetry is also “very good<\/strong>“. So what gives? The fluorescence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nFluorescence plays a role in how a diamond faces up and reacts to light. It can make even the best diamonds appear dull, foggy or hazy<\/strong>. And if you shopped by specifications alone<\/strong>, without seeing the diamond, you’d be in for a nice surprise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nEspecially since it sells for $13,990<\/strong> (at the time of this post). <\/p>\n

\nC. diamond is not bad either<\/strong>. IF clarity, K color (a little on the yellow side<\/strong>), decent cut, symmetry and polish… But once again, it has medium fluorescence<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nSo while it’s ultra-clean, it still doesn’t face up<\/strong> that well.<\/p>\n

Diamond B. is the cheapest and the prettiest<\/h2>\n

\nB. has the lowest clarity grade<\/strong> (at the other end of the spectrum); I1 clarity<\/strong>. But this I1 appears really, really nice (many don’t). If you looked at enough I1 clarity diamonds though, you’d see that some inclusions hide and blend in<\/strong> with the stone better. They visually look more expensive. As in this case. <\/p>\n

\nDiamond B. also has an excellent cut, polish and symmetry (triple excellent<\/strong>). It’s E color (pure-white<\/strong>), and has zero (none) fluorescence. <\/p>\n

\nSo side by side with higher quality diamonds, it just looks better<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

And cheaper!<\/h2>\n

\nIt goes to show you that diamonds must be visually judged<\/strong>. You have to see them, rotate them, scope them under magnification to really enjoy their true beauty (which is why I love looking at James Allen<\/a> diamonds). <\/p>\n

\nThere are tons and tons of low priced diamonds that would fool anyone<\/strong>. You just have to be picky<\/strong>. Find a diamond that sparkles and shines (I always advise a triple excellent cut and a pure white diamond). Those traits are way more noticeable than clarity (which is mostly microscopic<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

You’d be amazed at what you can save.<\/h2>\n

\nBut if money is no objection, then buy the best you can. Like this stunning stone here:<\/a><\/p>\n

That’s awesome!<\/h2>\n

\nBut is it really worth it?<\/strong> It all depends on what you want, what’s important to you, and what your pocketbook says<\/strong>. For clarity is always the least crucial 4C. It’s always cut and color that rank at the top.<\/p>\n

\nThat, and no fluorescence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nJust look for the ones that don’t have huge eye-visible black flaws<\/strong>. Easy as that.<\/p>\n

\nPut your money into a bigger carat weight<\/strong> or a beautiful mounting (like these pave mountings here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

There’s nothing wrong with low clarity…<\/h2>\n

\nIf you know what to shop for<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
