Hands down, it’s RED!<\/h2>\n

\nRed diamonds are so rare in nature, finding any is difficult (in fact, at the time of this writing, James Allen has zero in stock<\/strong>, and they carry thousands of fancy diamonds).<\/p>\n

\nUsually when you do find red diamonds in stock (the color caused by graining in the diamond<\/strong>), they are small in carat weight.<\/p>\n

\nThe second rarest is a blue diamond<\/strong> (blue is caused by Boron, Hydrogen and Nitrogen<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Third; Pink<\/h2>\n

\nAfter that would be the lovely Orange <\/strong>and Green <\/strong>diamonds…<\/p>\n

\nThese diamond colors are real<\/strong> (found in the Earth like this). They are called “fancy color diamonds<\/strong>” or “fancies<\/strong>“. They are not enhanced or treated<\/strong>, they are the real deal.<\/p>\n

And they are very rare:<\/h2>\n

And then we have colored diamonds<\/h2>\n

\nThe difference between “fancy color<\/strong>” and “color enhanced<\/strong>” is the difference between real colors<\/strong> and man-made colors<\/strong> (jewelry stores carry tons of enhanced diamonds<\/strong>, but very few fancy diamonds).<\/p>\n

\n\"Compare<\/p>\n

\nMan-made colored diamonds look great (almost too good to be true), and are way cheaper<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

But, when we’re talking about “rare”…<\/h2>\n

\nColored diamonds are not rare<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nRare means hard to find in nature<\/strong> (so all those pinks and blues you see in stores are NOT RARE<\/strong>). Taking an off-color, or poor color (like yellow, brown, or gray<\/strong>) diamond, and zapping it with heat to make it pink, blue, yellow, green, whatever color, is not rare<\/strong>. It’s a good use of poor quality diamonds (makes them sellable<\/strong> and beautiful<\/strong>), but they are not rare. Any jeweler can send any diamond in to have this process done.<\/p>\n

Fancy color diamonds:<\/h2>\n

\nFancies are real and rare<\/strong>. So rare that “color<\/strong>” is generally the only thing that matters with them. Clarity is not a big concern<\/strong> (even if it has tons of flaws).<\/p>\n

\n\"Fancy<\/p>\n

\nUsually clarity isn’t even listed on the grading reports. It’s all about color<\/strong>. The vividness of it. The consistency. The even hues (think of your body and how your skin changes colors with different body parts). It’s color (fancy colors are Z+<\/strong> on the diamond color grading charts).<\/p>\n

Real vs Fake<\/h2>\n

\nIf you’re ever wondering if a colored diamond is real or not<\/strong>, look for the words “fancy color<\/strong>“. Fancy is real (not to be confused with fancy shapes<\/strong>; all the shapes of diamond other than the round). If the diamond says “enhanced”, “color enhanced<\/strong>“, “treated”, “heat treated<\/strong>“, then it’s a man-made color<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nSecondly, you can tell by the price<\/strong>. Fancy diamonds are quite expensive (their most expensive diamond right now<\/a> is a yellow diamond, 47.22 carats<\/strong>, selling for $2,431,690<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nFancies are common in yellow<\/strong>, but come in red<\/strong>, green, blue<\/strong>, pink, orange<\/strong>, gray, black<\/strong>, brown and even purple<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
