That&#8217;s what they use to grade diamonds with.<\/p>\n<p>\nNothing stronger is used to arrive at the clarity grade.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>The size of the flaws<\/strong>, the placement of the inclusions, <strong>the color of them<\/strong>, the blemishes on the surface of the stone, these are all <strong>viewed and analyzed under 10x<\/strong>. They use that magnification to draw out the diamond plots you see on <strong>GIA reports<\/strong>. It makes clarity easy to grasp, train with, teach with, study. When people see flaws, compare them with other diamonds of different clarities, <strong>they get it<\/strong>. It&#8217;s <strong>understandable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nBut also realize that anything seen in the stone beyond 10x <strong>doesn&#8217;t count<\/strong>. If they&#8217;re not seen under 10x, <strong>they don&#8217;t matter in the least<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><h2>So why is higher magnification used?<\/h2>\n<p>\nJust to see the imperfections easier. <strong>See them closeup<\/strong>. To really inspect and scrutinize a diamond. Under 10x they are hard sometimes for even me to find. <strong>They&#8217;re that small<\/strong>. 30x is ideal for things like that.<\/p>\n<p>\nBut 10x is what I use to show customers the normal flaws under a microscope. That way, <strong>they see exactly what the graders see<\/strong>. We&#8217;re sitting back from a computer monitor and <strong>we need to see the same thing<\/strong>&#8230; So most places use <strong>20x<\/strong> to show off their stones. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/loose-diamonds\/round-cut\/?a_aid=JSDG\">James Allen is a pro at this<\/a>, and even gives you the opportunity to <strong>spin each and every diamond around<\/strong> to see the details from all sides. But in the 20x image above, <strong>they look huge<\/strong>. That&#8217;s because it&#8217;s magnified twenty times the sight of our eyes.<\/p>\n<p><h2>Let me give you better clarity&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>Let&#8217;s shift the power down to 10x<\/strong> (grading magnification), to show you how that same diamond looks:<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Diamond-Magnified-Ten-Times-10x.jpg\" alt=\"Diamond Magnified Ten Times 10x\" title=\"Diamond Magnified Ten Times 10x\" width=\"640\" height=\"775\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27945\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Diamond-Magnified-Ten-Times-10x.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Diamond-Magnified-Ten-Times-10x-83x100.jpg 83w, https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Diamond-Magnified-Ten-Times-10x-248x300.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><h2>That&#8217;s a more accurate view.<\/h2>\n<p>\nIt shows you how much smaller these graded flaws are. And as you can see, <strong>they are not so obvious<\/strong>, although you can still spot them, mainly the <strong>black carbon spot<\/strong> in the center.<\/p>\n<p><h2>What the eye sees:<\/h2>\n<p>\nNow, let&#8217;s drop the magnification down to 1x; <strong>pretty much what your eyes can see<\/strong> (close enough for this example). All the flaws are <strong>pretty undetectable<\/strong> (unless you magnified them).<\/p>\n<p>\nSo it&#8217;s important to note, when viewing diamonds online, what the magnification is. Generally, any diamond clarity SI2 or higher <strong>you won&#8217;t see flaws with the eye<\/strong>. I Clarity diamonds (I1, I2 and I3) <strong>you will see flaws<\/strong>. Those are included diamonds and have <strong>eye-visible inclusions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nSI2 diamonds from the top view, you shouldn&#8217;t see anything (these are called <strong>eye-clean diamonds<\/strong>).
