Cheap?<\/h2>\n

\nYes<\/strong>. This particular 3\/4 carat diamond<\/strong> is only $1,240<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThat’s normally the price of an average quality 1\/2 carat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Why?<\/h2>\n

\nI mean, it doesn’t face up badly<\/strong>. When you compare it to a 3\/4 carat<\/strong> of the most popular color and clarity (SI1, E<\/a>), it actually looks just fine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThere are many reasons why<\/strong>. And if you just look a few of the 4C’s, you’re bound to miss much<\/strong>. You need to look at all of the diamond’s characteristics<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nSo let’s start with the full stats<\/strong>, so you can really see what’s going on:<\/p>\n

Now you get the bigger picture.<\/h2>\n

\nThe specs are lower<\/strong> in every single field.<\/p>\n

\nThe carat weight is shy <\/strong>(called a light carat<\/strong>). It’s 72 points versus a standard 75 points.<\/p>\n

\nThe color is near colorless (I)<\/strong>, and you can see it does have a slight yellow cast<\/strong> to the diamond.<\/p>\n

\nThe cut is “good” (which is not great<\/strong>). It doesn’t exhibit the brilliance and sparkle of the diamond next to it (which has an excellent <\/strong>cut).<\/p>\n

\nThe diamond on the left also has medium fluorescence<\/strong>, which can make a diamond appear odd or hazy<\/strong> under natural sunlight.<\/p>\n

Plus, the clarity is I clarity<\/h2>\n

\nI clarity has eye-visible black carbon spots<\/strong> in the stone that you can see without magnification.<\/p>\n

\nThe other diamond is pure-white (ultra bright<\/strong>), SI1 clarity (no visible flaws<\/strong> to the bare eye), and has triple excellent<\/strong> grades in cut, polish and symmetry.<\/p>\n

\nSo when you compare everything, you’ll see why one diamond is priced over double the price<\/strong> over another.<\/p>\n

Even certification matters<\/h2>\n

\nIf one of those diamonds above was certified by IGI<\/strong>, you’d see even a bigger difference in both appearance and price (GIA is the best and most trusted<\/strong> diamond reporting company in the world. IGI is questionable<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nPrice is determined by: cut<\/strong>, color, clarity<\/strong>, carat weight, certification<\/strong>, polish, symmetry<\/strong>, and fluorescence…<\/p>\n

As well as the visual appearance.<\/h2>\n

\nThis is because some diamonds, even with the best grades<\/strong>, still don’t look as good as lower quality diamonds<\/strong>. Some just display better and have more brilliance and fire. It’s nature<\/strong>. It’s birthmarks. It’s just another way of identifying the stones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nSo what you have to decide is, what are you happy with?<\/strong> Quality, or saving money?<\/strong> After all, you have to look at it for the rest of your life.<\/p>\n

\nMost people are okay with any color<\/strong> (“near colorless” and “pure white” are normally found), and as long as the diamond doesn’t look totally yellow<\/strong>, people have no real issues with it.<\/p>\n

\nMost are okay with any clarity as well<\/strong>, as long as the flaws don’t look too obnoxious or obvious<\/strong>, like this I1 clarity shown below:<\/p>\n

Those inclusions really stand out, don’t they?<\/h2>\n

\nMost people are also okay with any cut<\/strong> as well. Same with fluorescence<\/strong>, symmetry and certification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nUsually people are fine with a diamond, as long as it doesn’t have any glaring faults<\/strong> that take away from the beauty of the stone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sparkle is the #1 trait<\/h2>\n

\nMany diamonds, of any clarity or color can face up fine<\/strong> and have beauty and scintillation. Let your eyes be the judge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nTo really see what’s acceptable, and what you’d approve of, compare diamonds side by side<\/strong>. That’s the best way to conclude if the added price is worth it.<\/p>\n

\nIf you don’t see a massive difference<\/strong> with your own eyes, then save the money and put it towards a stunning engagement ring setting<\/strong> instead (like a pave mounting<\/a> or a halo mounting<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\nLike those two diamonds above… <\/p>\n

Is the cleaner stone worth double the price?<\/h2>\n

\nMaybe<\/strong>. The cheaper diamond does have huge black flaws<\/strong> that are very visible when you tilt and rotate the stone. Does that matter to you? Possibly. But it will matter to your pocketbook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Compare diamonds and see<\/h2>\n

\nOnly you can establish if cheaper is better<\/strong>, because we all have faults, don’t we?<\/strong><\/p>\n
