Darkness kills a diamond.<\/h2>\n

\nSeriously!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nLight brings life<\/strong>, and darkness destroys it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nWhether a diamond has sparkle or not, it’s all based upon cut<\/strong>, depth, width, proportions.<\/p>\n

\nAnd these are all graded by GIA<\/strong> and listed on a diamond report under cut grade<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nThe better the cut grade, the better the odds of having a brilliant diamond with tons of sparkle<\/strong> (the best cut is triple excellent diamonds<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\nBut the funny thing is, even these diamonds will still react with light differently. Because light is changing, and with diamonds it’s a combination of ranges<\/strong>, percentages and proportions<\/strong>. And if they aren’t totally correct, the diamond could be overwhelmed by darkness<\/strong> and black areas (not talking about inclusions<\/strong>, just the blackness created by facets).<\/p>\n

\nGranted, even a great diamond will still have black areas (like hearts and arrows<\/strong>), to contrast with the light<\/strong>, but these are pleasing and patterned and uniformed.<\/p>\n

\nSome diamonds have huge areas of blackness<\/strong> and shadows that make the diamond look dark and dull. It’s all you see.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThese diamonds above are not bad diamonds either. They have great clarity<\/strong> (SI1 or higher), and good color<\/strong> (H or higher), but the blackness is so apparent.<\/p>\n

Diamonds need light.<\/h2>\n

\nThe more light they get, the more attractive a diamond becomes<\/strong>. And you get this light by the way it bounces around inside the diamond, across the pavilion, back out to your eyes in a dance of white light and color<\/strong>. It’s amazing. It’s cut<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nEven buying a diamond that’s VS1, G<\/strong>, with an excellent cut is not enough…<\/p>\n

It must pass the visual test!<\/h2>\n

\nHow a diamond faces up is half the battle<\/strong>. This is why some lower grade diamonds look better than more expensive stones. It’s light balance. It’s interaction<\/strong>. It’s reaction. It’s all unique in every stone and it’s something you must see for yourself to judge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Look at the white areas and black…<\/h2>\n

\nAlso meaning, you must see the stone to buy it<\/strong>. If you buy a diamond from a website that doesn’t show you the real stone<\/strong>, then you’d have no idea how the diamond really looks in person. This is why I love James Allen<\/a>. They show you the real stones, magnified<\/strong>, side by side, so you can pick and choose the better looking diamonds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Don’t buy them.<\/h2>\n

\nBuy diamonds that pass visual scrutiny<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nLook at the stones, spin them<\/strong>, select the ones that sparkle.<\/p>\n

\nStay away from the dark, it hinders the most important feature<\/strong> of a diamond.<\/p>\n

\nInstead, choose a diamond that dazzles<\/strong>, for that’s what you’ll see for the rest of your life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
