{"id":29705,"date":"2019-11-09T10:01:07","date_gmt":"2019-11-09T15:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/?p=29705"},"modified":"2019-11-09T13:07:26","modified_gmt":"2019-11-09T18:07:26","slug":"gia-now-certifies-the-diamond-origin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/gia-now-certifies-the-diamond-origin\/","title":{"rendered":"GIA NOW CERTIFIES THE DIAMOND ORIGIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"blog-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/GIA-Now-Certifies-Diamond-Origin.gif\" alt=\"GIA Now Certifies Diamond Origin\" title=\"GIA Now Certifies Diamond Origin\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29709\" \/><\/div>\n<h2>WOW!<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>This is a first.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>GIA <\/strong>(<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gia.edu\/\">the Gemological Institute of America<\/a>) is now listing right on their diamond reports (what most people call &#8220;<strong>certificates<\/strong>&#8220;) where the diamond originated from.<\/p>\n<p><h2>This is amazing.<\/h2>\n<p>\nFor now, you&#8217;ll be able to instantly see if your diamond is a &#8220;<strong>blood diamond<\/strong>&#8221; (also called conflict diamonds, war diamonds, hot diamonds, or red diamonds)&#8230; terms given to <strong>certain mines in Africa<\/strong> where civil wars, and child labor are still quite present and <strong>violent<\/strong>. Countries like: Angola, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau. Diamonds mined in these <strong>war zones<\/strong> are sold to finance an insurgency, an invading army&#8217;s war efforts, or a warlord&#8217;s activity.<\/p>\n<p>\nSo now, GIA will tell you if it came from one of those <strong>conflict mines<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><h2>Sort of&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>\nYou see, <strong>GIA doesn&#8217;t pinpoint the exact mine itself<\/strong>, but they will tell you <strong>what country <\/strong>it came from (there are about <strong>28 countries in Africa<\/strong> that mine diamonds). This is rough-to-polish matching confirmation, from rough diamonds obtained from <strong>participating mining companies<\/strong>. GIA gets these rough rocks in a documented, sealed and untampered parcel. These are used to <strong>collect data and images<\/strong> for analysis. It will add <strong>much needed transparency<\/strong> to the market, and make customers feel more comfortable in selecting a particular stone for an engagement ring.<\/p>\n<p>\nOne day, <strong>this will become the norm<\/strong>, and not <strong>the exception<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Only time will tell.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nSo what do you think about <strong>the origin of the diamond?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nDoes it make a difference in where, or whom you buy it from?
