1) The Metal:<\/h2>\n

\nThe metal is 14k white gold<\/strong>. Hands down. It’s the most brilliant white metal there is. It makes all the diamonds pop and sparkle<\/strong>. It’s easy to polish, clean, and repair (Platinum, Tungsten, and Titanium are not easy to work with).<\/p>\n

2) The Mounting:<\/h2>\n

\nHalo mountings<\/strong> (a circle of diamonds around the center stone). So so popular<\/strong>. Just like these examples shown below:<\/p>\n

3) Diamond Shape:<\/h2>\n

\nOval<\/strong>. Oval diamonds are HOT <\/strong>and in-demand<\/strong>. Of course, rounds are always the best seller, but ovals are what people are asking for<\/strong>. Ovals look bigger than a round diamond, they have the same brilliant cutting style, and are about 20% cheaper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

4) Diamond Quality:<\/h2>\n

\nDiamond quality is subjective<\/strong> (meaning clarity and color). But the most popular clarity is SI1 (or higher)<\/a>. SI1 is eye-clean<\/strong>, with small imperfections that are microscopic only<\/strong> (you’ll need a microscope<\/a> or a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a> to see them).<\/p>\n

\nThe best diamond colors are G-H<\/strong> or higher (D-E-F). These are considered ‘white<\/strong>‘ diamonds and won’t look aged or yellow in hue.<\/p>\n

5) Diamond Cut:<\/h2>\n

\nThe cut grade…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWell, here’s where it gets a little tricky<\/strong>. Ovals are not graded with a cut grade like rounds (excellent, very good, good, fair, poor)…<\/p>\n

\n\"Most<\/p>\n

\nThis lack of grade is because all the other shapes (other then the round) are called fancy diamonds<\/strong>. And fancy diamonds come in all different thicknesses<\/strong>, widths, short, fat, tall, skinny, lumpy, spread… (unlike round diamonds which are perfectly symmetrical<\/strong> and easier to proportion and analyze).<\/p>\n

\nWhen it comes to the oval cut, there are very few factors<\/strong> to go by. You can look at the symmetry <\/strong>and polish <\/strong>grades. Those help (go for excellent <\/strong>if you can). But actually, how is appears<\/strong> is the best advise. The best shape for an oval is twice as long<\/strong> as it is wide (2×1<\/strong>). That’s balanced and pleasing to the eye<\/strong>. \nYou will also notice that a lot of oval cut diamonds tend to have tons of dark shadows<\/strong> in them. And while a nice contrast of some dark and white are appropriate, you don’t want to darken the stone<\/strong> (see some examples below)…<\/p>\n

So keep an eye on brilliance. It should sparkle, and it should look bright and white<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

6) Carat Weight:<\/h2>\n

\nGet whatever carat weight you can afford<\/strong> (although 1.00 carats are the ‘dream’ carat weight<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nBut actually, get whatever carat weight fits into the mounting you desire<\/strong>. They all hold different sizes and the halo will dictate what carat weight you can choose.<\/p>\n

\nSo find a mounting that you love, and then find the perfect stone to fit it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
