What is a Herkimer diamond?<\/h2>\n

\nIt sounds like a particular trade name, like Hearts on Fire<\/strong>, True Hearts, Tolkowsky<\/strong>, Centillion… <\/p>\n

\nIt could also be a cut; Asscher cut<\/strong>, King cut, Radiant<\/strong>, Ideal…<\/p>\n

\nSo what gives? What is a Herkimer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWell, for starters, it’s NOT a diamond!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIt’s a diamond look-alike<\/strong> that gets its name for a couple of different reasons.<\/p>\n

\nA Herkimer is a quartz crystal<\/strong>, that is natural (and first discovered in Herkimer county, New York), and grows with a hexagonal structure with facets on both ends (similar to a diamond<\/strong>). It also polishes up like a real diamond as well. But quartz is a softer stone, crystal is a 7<\/strong> on the moh’s scale of hardness<\/a>, where diamond is a 10. Herkimer’s can also be filled with inclusions like a diamond, or any gemstone. But often these flaws are liquid bubble-like<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nMany people associate Herkimer crystals<\/a> with Chakra <\/strong>(because of their transparent appearance).
