\nI’ve seen it for years, mainly in the pierced jewelry departments<\/strong>; belly button rings, nose piercings, tongue rings, earrings…<\/p>\n

\nBut lately, I’ve been seeing more spread throughout the other areas of jewelry, like chains<\/strong>, rings, bracelets <\/strong>and even pendants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nAnd while I love the futuristic concept of this, since it’s certainly eye-catching, I’m still torn with whether I would ever buy more (I do own one ring).<\/p>\n

What is it, and how do they make it?<\/h2>\n

\nAnodized plated jewelry refers to jewelry pieces that have undergone a process called anodization<\/strong>, which creates a colored oxide layer on the surface of the metal. This process is commonly used on metals such as titanium<\/strong>, aluminum, and niobium <\/strong>to achieve vibrant and durable colors.<\/p>\n

\nHere is how it’s made…<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Material Selection:<\/strong> The jewelry is typically made from a base metal, such as titanium or aluminum, which has good corrosion resistance properties.<\/li>\n
  2. Cleaning:<\/strong> The metal piece is thoroughly cleaned to remove any dirt, grease, or impurities from the surface. This ensures proper adhesion of the anodized layer.<\/li>\n
  3. Anodization Process:<\/strong> The cleaned metal piece is immersed in an electrolyte solution, which acts as a conductor. The metal piece serves as the anode (positive electrode) in an electrical circuit.<\/li>\n
  4. Electrical Current Application:<\/strong> A direct current (DC) is applied to the metal piece, causing oxygen ions from the electrolyte solution to bond with the metal surface.<\/li>\n
