\nWhat’s really cool about Halo Settings is the fact that the center stone doesn’t need to be very big (to have a big look). Most Halo Settings have center stones that are .50 Carat<\/strong> (Half Carat) or smaller in the center.<\/p>\n

This means the PRICE IS LOW(ER)!<\/h2>\n

\nYou can save THOUSANDS on a Halo Style Ring<\/strong>, when the Total Diamond Count is broken up into many smaller stones, versus one single Solitaire Diamond of the same Carat Weight.<\/p>\n

\nEvery Jewelry Store today sells Halo Settings. It keeps the costs down<\/strong>, and these stores can utilize all those small Diamonds they have in stock. It’s a win-win! <\/strong><\/p>\n

What about Quality?<\/h2>\n

\nWith stones being just a couple of points each<\/strong>, the quality of those Diamonds is really not that important<\/strong> either! This is because the stones are tiny! It’s very difficult to scruitinize and distinquish between average quality (SI-I)<\/strong> and higher end quality (VVS-VS<\/strong>) when you’re talking about stones of this nature. It just doesn’t happen… easily!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nMostly you’ll just see the Sparkle!<\/strong> That’s cool! To see the flaws that are present in the stones you’ll need to use a 10x Jewelers Loupe<\/a> or a Microscope<\/a> to see them. So Jewelry Stores can get away with putting lower Clarity Stones in these mountings and they’ll still look good! <\/strong>So not only using small Diamonds helps bring down the price, but using lower Clarity stones will as well!<\/p>\n

Halo Setting Downside…<\/h2>\n

\nThe ONLY real downside<\/strong> that I see to Halo Engagement Rings is this…<\/p>\n

There are a LOT of Prongs!<\/h2>\n

\nTake a peek at this Blue Diamond Ring from Jareds<\/a>… It has many, many Prongs<\/strong> (the price is great though)…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\nTons of Prongs <\/strong>(or Beads that hold the Diamonds in), can really rack up the Price of Repairs! <\/strong><\/p>\n

\nRepairs like:<\/strong> Retippings, Tightenings, Fixing Bent Prongs, Snagging Prongs, Prongs that are Bent, Broken, Snapped Off, Worn Down, Lifted…<\/p>\n

Prongs Need Repair Often!<\/h2>\n

\nAnd the MORE Prongs you have, the MORE you’ll have to maintain them<\/strong> and keep them repaired. It’s a never-ending job.<\/p>\n

\nI will say this though, these types of Prongs are probably the BEST Prongs to have<\/strong> because of one criteria: They don’t sit up high!<\/strong> Most Halo Style Mountings have Low Prongs, so they won’t get Caught as much, Errode, Rub Down, or Break Off as much as a normal sized Prong would. That’s cool… But you still have to be careful with them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

My Suggestion is this:<\/h2>\n

\nIf you purchase a Halo Engagement Ring, by all means, buy an E.S.P. (Extended Service Plan) <\/strong>on the ring (if the store offers such a plan), because they WILL cover the cost of Prongs<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\nA Service Plan covers Retipping<\/strong>, New Prongs, Tightening, Repairing Bent or Broken Prongs, Rebuilding them… virtaully anything and everything that could happen to your Prongs, a Service Plan will pay for it! It’s well worth buying! <\/strong><\/p>\n

Repair Cost Example<\/h2>\n

\nLet’s look at a Halo Ring that has 72 Prongs<\/strong>… (Ring Sold by Fred Meyer Jewelers Here!<\/a>). 72 Prongs would cost you around $850 to fix!<\/strong> (That’s an average about $12 a Prong<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nThat adds up quick! <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\nAll good things to think about…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIf the entire ring cost you $1,499<\/strong>, and every 8 years you have to put another $850 into it<\/strong>, that gets very, very pricey! (Not that you’d have to repair ALL the Prongs at once, but it still adds up!)<\/p>\n

\nHalo Settings are wonderful<\/strong>. I really do love them. They are full of dazzle and life and glimmer… <\/p>\n

But with Prongs, comes Repairs!<\/h2>\n

\nThe cost of these repairs may outweight the price of the ring<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nIs it worth it?<\/p>\n

\nIt’s your choice!<\/p>\n
